Hey, everyone!
I'm actually really excited to be posting here as I just took a dip into the world of Blackberry...
My story: I have been a Treo user since 2005, and have used every Treo that Palm has manufactured (for GSM networks); from the 180 to the newest 750 model. However, while my needs for phone calls and internet have always been executed well by the Treos, I started to get a little more interested in doing mobile e-mail...
To make a long story short, the only real competitor for e-mail on the Treo is Motorola's Goodlink service, which is a great product, but fails to be stable on any platform that I've used it in (Palm OS or Windows Mobile). However, circumstance got the best of me and I lost my Treo 680 on Friday (yes, I downgraded from a 750 to a 680; you can see where this is going...).
I found that it was faster and a bit cheaper to go Blackberry, so I bought an 8700g for $150, and here I am. I know that I'm losing some features, but I'm posting in hopes that all of you Blackberry fans can tell me what I'm about to expect from this little device. Hopefully I can make some friends in this network too!

In what ways? I know that this is going to get really opinionated (trust me, Treo owners over at their forums defend their devices just like people here defend theirs)...

Welcome to the forums....I am sure you will find any answers you need while you are here. I bought my first BB back in May of '06 (or somewhere in there), it was the 8700g on Tmo. Love it. Found every answer, and then some, from the great people on this forum. I like to help out now when I can. I think you will be best served here if you ask questions on what you would like to do or have done by your device. Do you have any specific questions about what you want the BB to do, that your Treo did, etc? I haven't used a Treo, so I don't know their capabilities. There are great FAQs here, just look around. You should love the 8700...it is an awesome device.

Welcome to the forums! ... I too am a Former Treo User, as well as Moto Q. You will love your Blackberry, the search button is amazing on these forums. There is lot's of great stuff that you can do on your Blackberry, and I am sure that you will love the Stability.

blackberry better
My boss went from blackberry to trio. That lasted several months, and he went back. He thought he hated blackberry, but he hated treo more. I have use blackberry for 3 years and have had many... I love it. Enjoy and let us know if we can help

So a few hours with the Blackberry
...and it seems like I have a winner!
I haven't updated the device to the 4.2 firmware that I keep reading about, but am looking very much forward to doing so when I get back home! Otherwise, typing on the 8700 is a HUGE improvement from using any Treo of the past. Not only that, but it's extremely quick (was afraid that it wouldn't be because it runs mostly on a special version of Java) and is actually quite a pleasure to use.
Definitely welcoming the difference. It's just very sad how the innovative ideas at Palm have dropped off since I started using them back before the 2K's with the Palm IIIe...

The one thing you may initially notice after the 4.2 upgrade is that the device will seem a little more sluggish. In my opinion the 4.1 OS for the 8700g is faster than the 4.2 OS. But the added capabilities far outweigh the slight performance lag. And you will get used to it as it isn't THAT bad. Just wanted to let you know.

I think that you'll find the biggest difference between the BB8700 and the Treo is the ease of use of the thumbwheel on the side compared to having to pull out the stylus on the Treo for most operations. My wife is stuck with a Treo (she was dismissive of BBs in general), and now has a pretty clunky, battery-consuming, Bluetooth-inept device, while I glide through life with my BB8700c.  |

I will never go back to a flip phone again. I care less about music and video
I dont even have the data plan and I love it. I had a 7250 and lost in the snow 2 weeks ago.
I recently picked up the 8703e and LOVE IT. Fast and everything even after the 4.2 update. I finally got my today themes. I have used pocketpcs for 7 years before this and while there are advantages to them and alot of free software and what not. They lock up all the time and they break easily if dropped.
Ive dropped my BB on cement I dont know how many times without incident.
GET INSURANCE though, I learned that the hard way. The holsters tend to give way eaily if knocked and that is how I lost mine.
