On my older versions of the Blackberry OS, if I typed the letter "M" on the home screen, it would bring up my mom's phone number. "D" would bring up Dad, etc.

Now, on the new OS I just downloaded, when I type a letter, it takes this as a "universal search." Instead of just bringing up phone numbers, it brings up the phone number and a whole bunch of other things. "M," for example, brings up Mom's contact, but also Steve's Mom, "text messages (23)" featuring the word Mom, and other stuff. I just want the phone list. Is there any way to go back to the old way?

It's not a problem. Search uses the character to display all the optioned items with the same characters. You can change what it will search using the option selection but it will still show multiples. try only selecting contacts in options to limit what you get.
