Default SIm and service question

Please Login to Remove!

My company just issued me a new BB 7290. It surfs thru mmode, so I assume its AT&T or Cingular. My company will not pay for the phone feature, I would have to pay for that. I have a Cingular account on a Moto v551 and would like to know is it possible to add my phone service to the BB WITHOUT losing functionality on the V551. I would only use one or the other at one time.

Is this legit? Would Cingular help me or weould they require me to port my number?

Any help would be appreciated.

Assuming that your boss doesn't mind, there's nothing that's not legit about doing that.

Just remove the sim card from the BB and put it into the Motorola. The only thing is, that you won't get any email on the 551, but I'm assuming that's exactly what you want.

Hope this helps!

Default sim and service

Let me restate. I want to use the BB as is (with email and work settings intact) but I want to use the phone on the BB with my current, personal mobile account.
Basically, I need to combine the features of my two sim cards. Also, I want to be able to still use my MOTO V551 when I'm not using the BB a not switch the SIMS.

You need to get phone service and BB service on one SIM card and have a phone and BB that will work for the same carrier. Then you can pop the SIM in whichever device you want to use. Two ways to do that. One, your company may let you add phone service to the current BB account SIM if you agree to pay for the phone charges. Some will, so worth asking. Otherwise, add BB service to your own phone account SIM and get company to reimburse you for BB service. My firm does this for me.

This could be the tricky part given the rocky integration of AT&T and Cingular. Try sticking your Motorola's SIM in the Blackberry to try it out first. If it rejects the SIM then at least one of your devices will need to be unlocked (and good luck with that given Cingular/AT&T's history of not unlocking Blackberries).
