What a great forum for everything BB.
Have a new 8700, never used a BB before and it's very impressive.
Takes a while to get used to the icons, scrool wheel etc, but it's quick, with a great screen.

Not sure what the 'Wireless' function is. Do I need it turned on or off?
Does it have anything to do with wireless hot spots?
As newcomer, a more detailed manual would be helpful.

Hello!

Thats funny, I wondered what that did, too, when I first got my BB! You need it on if you want to be able to use any voice/data functions on the phone. It basically disconnects you from the network when you turn it off. You can still work in "Offline" mode though, write email and what-not.

Turn it off while flying and you will be able to do offline work, and as you get off the plane you can turn it on againa nad have it then send any emails you worked on.
