Default BB Curve & Verizon Wireless Q's From a Noob

Please Login to Remove!

I just received my upgrade notice from Verizon Wireless. I ordered the Pink BB Curve online. I chatted with customer service on the internet and they weren't very helpful. I have ALOT of questions.

Verizon wireless's mobile net is called web 2.0. Is the BB's internet provider completely different?

If I log onto the net with my BB does it incur the same charges that my enV would, or are there are extra charges because its a BB smartphone?

The voice plan I have is unlimited IM, text, and pic msg'ing to and from any wireless provider. Does this include the BB's IM service?

Are the BlackBerry's software set in stone or do I upgrade online at home, or can I upgrade software right from my phone?

Yes and no. Your data plan will be completely different. Verizon Wireless will add the BlackBerry Data Plan to your account automatically, so you need not worry about which one to pick. (Unless it's being used for your corporate enterprise environment)

The data plan with Verizon Wireless is unlimited. You'll pay a flat fee of $29.99 per month for unlimted usage.

No, it does not. The BlackBerry Data Plan will cover that.

Not "set in stone". You can upgrade the handheld software using your computer. You can also add applications to your device from the phone itself, or from your computer. (Depends on the app.)

Well, it's worth noting that the dataplan covers *data*. A lot of things can be covered by "data" -- web, emails, chat clients like BeeJive or Ramble IM, Blackberry's PIN messages. However, MMS and SMS aren't covered and you'll still need separate arrangements for those. Especially if you've got a cadre of people already used ot sending you SMSs to communicate...

Actually, the BB unlimited plan at VZW does NOT cover text or picture messages. You can add that to your plan for an additional fee if you want. The $29.99 plan only covers e-mail that is not tied to a BES and web / data. To add unlimited text and picture messaging is more (I think that I pay $30 a month but that is for all lines on my plan... a single line might be less). If you find out differently, I would love to know b/c that would mean that I am paying for something that I don't need.
