Hi,

I would like to get the 8120 because of its WIFI feature. I live in a apartment that is a dead zone and I would like to get this phone so that I could use my WIFI connection to receive and make calls. My question is do I have to add any type of package to my cell plan to be able to use the WIFI feature?

Also, can I send SMS messages without having a data plan? Just send messages on a per message basis?

AT&T does not offer the UMA service required to make/receive calls. TMobile offers this service but ATT does not.

The ATT 8120 can use wifi for data only.

As John mentions above, UMA is not available with AT&T.

On the SMS - yes you can do SMS on a per message basis, it's ok for a few a month. If you do more than 20 or so, you may want to consider a package.
