Default Alerts disabled when phone is plugged into charger/data cable.

Please Login to Remove!

I finally got my storm set up the way I like it, but when I plug it into the USB data cable to charge....for some reason it wont vibrate or play any alerts.

I currently have it in vibrate only mode, and when i receive a message or call the phone doesnt vibrate. Once I disconnect it from the USB data cable, it vibrates like normal.

Is there a setting to fix this?

TIA

I am running .75, which was the version the phone came with. I have not done any updates.

If you find a solution, please come back and post in this thread for me....

Thanks!

If it's in bedside mode, alerts will not work.

Well when I plug the phone in, the clock automatically comes up. In the menu ther is an option to turn on bedside mode, but I have not done this. It is just the clock application causing the alerts to be disabled?

Mine does not show the clock or enter bedside mode. It just does not alert when I have it connected to my Laptop.

Are your alert sound files stored on your memory card or in the phone's internal memory? If they're on your memory card and you have USB data mode enabled when you connect to your laptop, the phone can not access those sound files.

Good call. That is probably my issue. I have them all stored on the Memory Card. I will move them to the device memory.

You could just use a different profile when you're plugged in if you don't want to move your sounds to your phone memory. You'd have to change the profile manually when you plug it in, but it'd save some space.

This seems like an OS bug though. I seem to remember with my Pearl (and even my Storm at one time), when I was connected to my computer, it would automatically use the default sound for each alert if the custom one (from the memory card) was not available. I wonder if this is a feature they will bring back in a future OS release.

I noticed this a while ago...

I'm on .85 now and my alerts/ringer works while charging.

I disabled the "Auto Enable Mass Storage Mode when Connected" option (Options ->Memory). This helped, because I too had alerts on the memory card.

I also turned off the clock when charging (not sure if this causes anything cuz I did it straight away).

OK, so I have my profile set to vibrate, plug into laptop to charge and it disables the vibrate alert. Anyone have any idea how to fix this?

Open the Clock app, go into Clock Options

Change: "When Charging" to "Do Nothing"

No, bedside mode is what disables LED alerts (if you have that option turned on). clock only doesn't change anything.
