Just found out about this from Engadget. They posted the news this afternoon:

Well, this is refreshing, we guess: a warning that RIM's North American services are going to go down before it actually happens. Waterloo sent out a note this week that it'll be taking down the giant, scary, HAL-like machines that power BlackBerrys operating in the United States and Canada tomorrow, Saturday the 22nd, from 6AM to 10AM GMT. Translated, that's 2AM to 6AM EDT, which we figure is a relatively painless period for RIM to be knocking out service, all things considered. It looks like virtually everything involving data could be affected, including sending and receiving messages, registering devices, and web browsing -- but let's be honest, if you're checking your email on your phone at 4AM, you need to put the darned thing on the nightstand and catch some shut eye.

[Via Boy Genius Report]

Well, that's just great! I'm a night owl, so somebody up there obviously has it in for me! What will I do at 2 AM when there's nothing on TV and I can't surf the interwebs with my CrackBerry?!?

I guess I'll just pull out some comics and READ.

Anyway... at least they warned us this time. Yay?

EDIT: Apologies if this was already posted and I missed it. I checked through the entire first page of this forum, and the first page of the BlackBerry In The News Forum, and saw no mention of it.

Ah, OK. I forgot to check the BlackBerry Network Forum... D'OH!

Odd, though, that Boy Genius Report didn't find out about it until yesterday... they usually have such good inside info well ahead of anyone else.

Default This Update Is On Hold!!!

Per the News report in the link that I am including from one of our local news stations here in St. Louis this update will be re-scheduled for a later date due to the massive flooding here. The federal Emergency Management officials here use them and wont be able to communicate if it goes down because they are on the flood sites.

Did they schedule it for now? Because my BlackBerry has no email.
