The Javelin looks like the only new phone I'd leave my Pearl for...just maybe. Lets hope for a CDMA version before 2016?

Which ones?? Even T Mobile is beginning to roll out 3G. Who will want this device when they can get something with 3G. And some will say, you really don't need 3G for a lot of BB activities, but the fact is people will want 3G just based on the fact that it is faster and perceived to be better, whether they need it or not. Its a shame such a great looking device will probably be a flop [the GSM model anyway because the eventual CDMA model will probably have EVDO] due to short sightedness on RIMs part.

who cares the device will still sell,
those that need 3g will get 3g devices, those that don't, wont, its like why buy a suv or a truck where it can haul 10,000 lbs when all you need is to commute to / from work?

T-Mobile has barely started rolling out 3G. One market, and no timeline for future rollouts. That's not having 3G, not now anyway. It will be at least a year before they have a decent AWS footprint and hard subscriber numbers to show the manufacturers. So no, T-Mobile doesn't have 3G. They will have it, but right now they don't.

You don't know marketing my friend. There will be perceived need for 3G whether they need it or not. Just look how many people are driving those big trucks who don't really need them.
And yes it will still sell, but not nearly as well as if it had 3G. Just look at the buzz over the Bold.

Man, reading all this info about the Bold and the Javelin. I'm really disappointed in T-mo.
I've been a loyal customer for about 4 years now and up until now I've had no complaints. Maybe if they let us know the hold up on the rollout of their 3G network it wouldn't be so bad, but every time you talk to a rep or CS it's almost an identical response. "We have no information on that at this time, but I hear its soon".
Well soon isn't soon enough. I faithfully upgrade my phone every September right as my contract expires and now it seems like I'll be shopping around to other providers.

If ATT is getting the Bold in the next couple of months, why on earth would RIM/TMO be waiting until next summer to release what is basically a 3G-less version of the Bold? If anything, the fact that it's not 3G means there's less conflict between practically concurent rreleases by ATT and TMO - they're different phones and will be marketed differently. I've been holding on to my antiquated 8700 in the hope of skipping over the Curve by this fall, but I don't think I'd wait until next summer.

I agree. Releasing it so far after the Bold would be an awful marketing decision. Who's going to wait months to get a lesser product? They need to release The Bold and Javelin together if they expect to have a reasonable chance of selling Javelins. Either that or price it insanely low, like $99 with a contract. Make it the cheap-o model and look to capitalize on the lower end of the spectrum.

If they aren't coming out until next summer then why would they have a (assumed) working production unit? This baby is coming out long before then.

The Centro has been a really huge seller on every carrier (for some ungodly reason). Think of this as RIM's much better looking, much better spec'd 'Centro".

This phone should be around in October Time hitting right before the Holidays and what not. I see myself with this phone for now until I can get my hands on a Bold.
