Mine, out of the box, with the .199 OS doesn't play any videos. What did you do specifically? How can I change the APN?

"Wireless network connection has been disconnected. Please try again." is the message I get every time I try under .206. I upgraded directly from T-Mo's .114 to .206. I've tried changing the wap from epc.tmobile.com to wap.voicestream.com, I've made sure javascript in the browser is turned on everywhere. No luck! I also noticed a checkbox in the browser that says: "Switch to WAP for streaming media"

Just tried again this afternoon, with a wifi/UMA connection. I started by firing up the T-Mobile (WAP) browser, and going to m.youtube.com, and I watched 4 different videos -- all worked perfectly. I'm running .206 on my 8900 since the day it became available.

@vinmontRD: You said you used the T-Mo (WAP) Browser? What about the regular Internet Browser? I was also successful getting the WAP Browser to play YouTube, but have you had the same success with the Internet Browser, and if so what did you do? I guess editing my YouTube bookmark to use only the WAP browser is a good work around for now.

:( I'm not sure *what's* going on right now. At home now, so I'm connected via WiFi/UMA again. I can browse m.youtube.com via both browsers (T-Mobile WAP and regular web browser), but now when I select a video to play, the media player is simply hanging with a "Loading..." message in the upper right. Same results in both browsers, and on attempting several different videos.

Don't have time now, but I suspect I should try rebooting the phone and possibly the router as well. Strange after everything worked so well just a couple of nights ago!

Will report back once/if I figure this out.

@sleeper55 and vinmontRD: I am on BIS. I was able to get my YouTube videos to play over UMA by editing my YouTube bookmark to be associated with the WAP browser. I didn't have this problem at home, but at work with their routers I did have that problem. Now I don't.

Just upgraded to .206 from .114 so many settings were reset. I my APN is back to epc.tmobile.com and youtube is working fine.

Should I leave it the way it is (if it isn't broke don't fix it), or is wap.voicestream.com a wiser APN?

I'm on Vodafone, I'm running .206.

I tried entering these settings

Quote:
Vodafone (UK)

Gateway IP: 212.183.137.12

Port: 9201

APN: wap.vodafone.uk

username: user @ vodafone.net (minus the spaces)

password: user
But they don't improve it at all. It just keeps breaking up every few seconds, the video blacks out or goes blocky so you can barely see anything.

Anyone on Vodafone got Youtube working on the Curve properly?

EDIT - Actually, it works alright through Wifi. But GPRS is crap.

Does anyone have it running smoothly through GPRS? Or do you need 3G to get YouTube playing smoothly through a mobile network?

Jon,

Any news yet, as I have been checking this thread daily. I can watch You Tube on the EDGE network on my 8900, but no go on WIFI, TMO is no help as they say they cant fully support it on WIFI, I hate the TMO phone drones. They finally transfered me to RIM, and they have had some calls on it and are looking into the issue

@toast:

Still no joy. I really don't know what's going on. Only difference here from 4/25 when it worked for me with .206 is the following:

I had Verizon come in and install FIOS in place of my old Comcast connection (triple play).

Prior to 4/25: I had Comcast for Internet and TV. Home phone is T-Mobile@Home (UMA), and my mobile is, of course, an 8900. Router at the time was a Linksys WRTU54G-TM directly hooked to Comcast.

Since 4/25: Verizon installed FIOS, which seems very well behaved after I had comcast for so long. Verizon ActionTec router faces out to Verizon fiber. All my PC's (home LAN) hooked to it. Also have WRTU54G-TM (Linksys) downline from the ActionTec, using it to support T-Mobile@Home home phone system.

Also: both ActionTec and Linksys have WiFi going, and I've made sure the WiFi channels they're using are pretty far apart (as in 1 and 11).

WiFi works beautifully on either WLAN. UMA calls from my 8900 work when it's connected to either WLAN. I can use the 8900 to browse the web, use Viigo, BerryWeather, etc -- all works fine. Except YouTube.

It loads the web page, opens the media player, and sticks on "Loading...". This happens whether I'm connected via UMA to either the ActionTec or the Linksys. (used to work perfectly via the Linksys alone). Even tried connecting to the ActionTec (bypassing Linksys) and adding the 8900 to the DMZ on the ActionTec. Still no joy.

Also tried changing APN back and forth between new "epc" one and old voicestream APN. No difference in results.

Battery pull -- no difference.

ideas???

Wirelessly posted (8900)

Update:

At work now, connected via UMA/WiFi again. But YouTube works just fine from here.

Apparently there's something in my Verizon router config at home that is blocking my use of youtube there.
