Wirelessly posted (8900 on T-Mo)

Not only can you use an 8900 without a data plan, but you can actually browse the net without even having a SIM card in the BB.
I have connected both an 8320 and an 8900 to wifi and browsed the net without any connection to a network.

I don't have a data plan. I changed my browser settings to Hotspot Browser under Browser Configuration and under General Properties. It still doesn't work. Is there anything else that needs to be changed.

mine was the same also when i was abroad, just searched for WiFi and all my enterprise emails got in, in addition to browsing.

noting that, i disabled data while roaming.

others might trying first connecting to wifi before changing any setting

or the reason might be coz i have BB plan and it will be easily connecting to the wifi!!

Don't listen to anything that toolbox says and for sure don't ask him any questions. He seems to forget that you're paying for your internet. He probably hates coffee shops too for having hot spots, I bet he thinks the only way to live life is for everyone to have a wifi card in their pocket.

No your point is not valid, if you own a phone that contains a wi-fi chip you should be able to use it to connect to your home network regardless of weather or not you pay for a data plan to connect to their network. The companies are now putting forth policies requiring a data plan(which is a rip off mind you at $30 a month) to use wi-fi which is hardware built into the device you own. The att network is overloaded and has spotty 3g coverage so why should i be required to pay for a data service that i dont want or need, when i can connect to the internet at my home that i still pay money for. Your capitalism argument is weak and they are raking in money because of dumb consumers like yourself that dont mind being gouged or understand the DMCA.

Open your browser (yes, the one that isn't working) navigate to Menu > Options >
Browser Configuration. on the top, change browser to "hotspot browser". then go back to browser options and click general properties, here again change browser to "hotspot broser"

NOW WIFI WORKS WITHOUT DATA PLAN
Ok got my first Blackberry a 9700 today and CANNOT get it to connect on wi fi. Tried the above advice but the browser configuration keeps changing back to web2go. Under General Properties the default browser still shows Hotspot Browser.

Any other ideas? I'd appreciate the help.

I'm not joking in the slightest. You and the OP are scammers. Pure and simple.

Would you like it if I came into your house and just started drinking beer out of your fridge that I didn't pay for? No, you wouldn't.

I'm not confused at all.
OK why is using wi fi stealing? I have an internet account in my house and at work. There is wi fi set up at both places, bought and paid for. So how is anyone being scammed by my not wanting to purchase Blackberry's service as well?

After you change the browser to "internet hotspot browser", you have to select "save options". I surf in bed at night with an old Bold 9000 that has no SIM card.

Don't forget to connect to wifi after under "manage connections".
