Smile Best case for 8900?

Please Login to Remove!

I have been looking @ seidio, and casemate's website. (I'm not sure if casemate makes a case for the 8900 @ this point, do they?)
But, I was just wanting to find out what people are using and what they like/dislike as far as cases go for the 8900?

Wirelessly posted (Curve 8900)

I'm using the BB black skin and no case. I don't like walking around with a black box on my hip. But I'm sure I'm not the norm for a BB user.

My 2 cents

Before I got my 8900, I picked up a weird little case called a Golla. I figured it would protect it until I got a "decent" leather one. Well, I did get a leather one but I actually prefer the little Golla bag, it has room for a couple credit cards and some cash, plus it totally protects my 8900. It's very easy to take the BB out and put back in, but..... it's a little "relaxed" looking and therefore not for everyone.

Seidio Innocase II Not to thick.. Great protection and it feels good in your hand also it even has some felt on the inside of the case to protect your phone better. I swear by them I have one for my 8320 too.

I'm a "pouch-in-pocket" person, and I use the black OEM leather pouch that came with it. Mine fits great (some complained about it being too tight at first, maybe they fixed it). I applied BSE to the screen, the entire back, and the top front where it sticks out of the pouch. I did buy an official RIM indigo blue pouch with square metal logo on it for $30 but I sent that back because it was way too tight and pushed various keys when the phone was inserted.

I got the horizontal case from RIM and am sending it back for this very reason, no slot for the trackball and it was really made for the storm (although they seel it as 8900 as well)...the sleeper function doesnt work, magnets are in wrong place, I love the OEM case though.

Heard people are having problems with the 3 clips that keep the bottom and top pieces joined.

Wirelessly posted (All the cool kids are doing it)

I just use the case that came with it, and then as work I have a 83xx leather holster pouch, I added another magnet to the back and it sleeps 100% of the time now

After a couple weeks of constantly checking T-Mobile corporate stores, and other brick & mortar retailers that carry genuine RIM BlackBerry leather pouches, I FINALLY found my pouch a few days ago. Here's what's currently holding my 8900 when it's not in use:

Now, I know what you're thinking. You're thinking "but that's the leather pouch for the 8300 Curves! It doesn't work right because the Holster Mode magnets are in the wrong place!" And just a week or 2 ago, you would have been correct!

However... with absolutely NO mention that it was coming out (it's not listed on their website with the other 8900 cases) RIM has issued an updated version of this leather pouch that is FULLY COMPATIBLE with the 8900! When you look at the Device Compatibility sticker on the back of the package, it clearly lists 8900. I tested it at the store before purchasing it. It engages Holster Mode, regardless of whether you put it in with the screen facing in, or facing outward.

It's also nowhere NEAR as tight as this one...

...which he also had, and which several of you have said is too tight until it's been broken in from a few weeks of use. I can confirm that it is VERY tight at first, which is why I passed on it.

So, I'm seeing how the one I bought does for me. I'm still not used to the narrow little "strap" that holds the BlackBerry in... I'm used to the full flap of the 8700g leather swivel holster...

...a design I wish RIM had stuck with. I'm also pretty sure the magnet to hold the flap closed was a little stronger on the 8700 version, and therefore more secure.

I have used Best Skins Ever (x2) on my old 8320 and 8100 and like them a lot. But as soon as I got a Case (pouch) I thought it was over Kill.

I also use and continue to use Rex Regina, for ~$45 USC, they make very high quality leathers, in many colors. I use my 8320 case with my 8900 and even though it is a little too big I don't see a problem.

Both companies are US companies. I say that because the pouch RIM supplies with your purchase comes from China, and we all know what kind of quality control that country has. I remember I put on my BSE and the dye from the RIM pouch turned my BSE a darker color. I have no idea what that was all about or if I was the cause, but I like the better quality of my Rex Regina.

Perhaps the BSE wasn't completely dry and absorbed the dye from the leather case.
Either way, the RIM case doesn't cover the top of the 8900, so don't use it.

This post is useless without a LINK!

I can tell you from LOTS of personal experience over the last 4 years that the Official BlackBerry pouches made by RIM are first rate in terms of quality, for a case in the $30 (US) price range. When I had my Nextel 7520, the case I ended up using the most was the official leather swivel holster made by RIM, and I was very surprised that it ended up being my favorite, because it has NO flap! Instead, the open-top holster was designed for a "skin tight" fit, that held the BlackBerry in with a tenacious grip. There was never even the slightest possibility of my BB falling out of that thing!

Then I switched to the 8700g on T-Mobile, and without hesitation I bought RIM's leather swivel holster pictured in my post above. The only time I used anything different was when I was in costume for Ren Fest, the rest of the time, I used the RIM holster, with few, if any, complaints about it.

So, for the 8900, I'm using the RIM leather holster pictured above. It may be made in China, but the quality is a lot better than typical Chinese made goods. The same can NOT be said for the 3rd party cases you typically find at cell phone accessory kiosks in shopping malls. Those things are junk, I've had one literally fall apart on me, when the glue holding in the side panels failed. They looked like they were stitched on, but the stitching was superficial. They were actually held in place with glue of obviously inferior quality, so I rarely use 3rd party pouches now for that reason.

As for the more expensive cases you and others recommend... well, a case that sells for $45 US had BETTER be of higher quality, in materials and construction, than RIM's official cases, otherwise, it's not worth the added cost!

BSE + TMobile store bought rubber case.

Best $20 I ever spent.

Both of these for only $20 total.

I love my config.

The BB OEM rubber models on eBay are WAY too thin.

The T-Mobile store based OEM ROCKS!

Found the Rex Regina website --> CLICK HERE!

They do NOT currently show any models for the 8900, and cases for the 8300 series do NOT work correctly for Holster Mode! The magnets are in the wrong place!

Thus, I have to give Rex Regina a "FAIL" at the present time!
