So, TT, can they?

From the knowledge you have today, can they?

This is correct.

This is correct.

Well, you're speaking about the now. So the answer is no.

If it is possible for them to get in the future, the answer is yes.

Technically the question was "Can BlackBerrys get viruses like computer ones?"

And the answer to that is and always will be "no". Unless BlackBerrys start running on Windows

I have to agree with JSanders and NJBB on this. The answer as of this posting is no.

If in the future, there would be a virus for BlackBerry devices, these posts are time stamped, and anyone can see at the time they were posted. At that time, this thread would most likely be closed due to not being active in 6+ months.

So, like the question, "can man live on Saturn", the answer is no.

We don't know what tomorrow holds. And oddly enough, that's been the same answer to "Can BlackBerrys get a virus?" for about ten years.

I think the more appropriate question is, "Currently, can man live on Saturn?" . The answer is no.

Like you said, we don't know what the future holds. Things being done today seemed far fetched years ago. Anything is possible.

So to honour the historic past and embrace the uncertain future the answer is "Currently there are no reports of malware specifically targetting the BlackBerry platform" Are we all happy with that?

So, it is a certain that it will get a virus?

That's like:
Q: Do you have cancer?
A: Not yet.

It's a high possibility. Just the fact that it's on a platform to execute code... That's all that's needed...

Q) Is it possible for my BB to get a virus?
A) In the future, Yes.

Ok, i'll cook an executable during the weekend to copy a record from the handset and open a socket. Then JSanders would run my nice POC code, i will ask for permission modification, he would click save as 99% of non BES bb users, i will hardcode an ip in and get a post of the record from the other side.

So we can have an affirmative conclusion for the present, since i find it ridiculous that some of you refuse to accept even the IN FUTURE POSSIBILITY of malware existance.

I don't refuse the future.

But again, as in the last ten years of this silly debate, it hasn't happened.

Will it? Well, why hasn't it happened?

Like I said yesterday, things being done TODAY just as seemed far-fetched (to you JSanders) years ago.

Anything is possible.

I hate repeating my self.

I myself have not seen or heard of a "current" virus, though I'm sure there's some 19 yr old with too much time on his/her hands trying to develop one as we speak.
But there was something that happened to me just a few days ago that was strange. I had went to a site, and was about a picture when a message popped up on my screen saying that something was trying to download information onto my device, and if I wanted to proceed. I was even suspicious of that pop up, so I just did a battery pull to close out everything (I did that because on computers, sometimes the message has been altered to when you try to close it by clicking on the red X, you are actually installing whatever it is).
