Hi, at the moment the new messages icon stays in place after clicking the icon bar if I don't open the messages, but the icon does disappear when I click the messages icon even if messages are left unread.

Is there a setting for the following alternatives:

1. Remove the icon after clicking the icon bar even if new messages are unread?

2. Leave the icon in place so long that I haven't opened the new messages?

I know 2 is possible because that's how my phone was previously set but I can't find the setting.

The message setting in #2 is the default behavior. You cannot do #1.

If you open Messages and use the Menu key to access "options" you should find it there.
