It would appear I'm not the only one hitting this problem on 680

Go to slingmedia.com with your BB browser and update to the latest version of slingplayer mobile. That will fix your problem. Also, note: Don't upgrade your device OS to .743 as SPM doesn't work on that version.

It works on .656. I downgraded back for some other issues so can't remember if .680 had a problem but the problem you describe did happen to me with .743.

Thanks John. Didn't realize Sling released a 1.0.0.13 build of SPM for BB. Good to know. I know about the .743 problem first hand. I even posted it on the OS download thread. I'll revert back to .656

1.0.0.13 was released specifically for the 9700 so you definitely want to update. Fixes the bug that was present in older versions where if you try to go to "Listen" mode it would not work and you'd be unable to switch back to "Watch" mode without removing and reinstalling the application. I'd get that updated asap.

I have been using Slingplayer with T-Mobile for several months now and its even better on the 9700 vs the 8320. Not only do I get video from an UMA connection but also when I'm 3G'ing. So now my next experiment is to see if I can connect the 9700 to my Escalade to pull down live TV to the entertainment center while driving on trips. Any ideas if the 3.5 or mini USB connection will OUTPUT video through an A/V cable?

Kinda figured - but thought I'd ask since I couldn't find any info out there on a cable. Now if only BlueTooth could handle video!!! Maybe my next phone upgrade!

I am having issues too. Running SPM gives me the error message below.

I am not going to downgrade my OS. When will SlingMedia have a fix for this?????

None of us here know when Sling will have a fix. You could wait quite a while. I recommend downgrading if Sling is important. I always use the latest OS but I downgraded.

Is it true that no version of Sling mobile will work with the latest OS on the 9700?

That is true. If you want sling you need to downgrade or wait for sling to update. Its also possible its a bug in the OS. None of us know.

Personally, I'd downgrade.

My Rogers Bold 9700 also prompted me to update to 743 which I did and I lost the ability to use SlingPlayer Mobile for my 9700. It would work once (maybe twice) on the lowest quality setting and then stop working until a battery pull.

No one other than SlingMedia knows when or if they will fix the problem with the later firmware versions and SlingPlayer.

In terms of not downgrading your OS, that is your decision based on functionality/stability/desire for the new firmware and your desire to use SlingPlayer Mobile on your Blackberry which I'm assuming you paid for or you are currently on the 1 month trial period.

Personally, after running 743 for a few days, I didn't notice much difference between the 743 firmware and what I had prior to updating (which was 593) so I downgraded the firmware to what I was using (593) since I wanted to use SlingPlayer Mobile on my 9700 (and I didn't NEED to have the latest/"greatest" firmware). There is a later version than 593 that is compatible with SlingPlayer Mobile v1.0.0.13 (latest version of SlingPlayer Mobile for Blackberry) but since I was happy with 593 and it was already on my PC from a previous firmware upgrade, I just went with that version.

If it helps your decision on keeping the latest firmware on your Blackberry and waiting for Sling Media to release a fix the problem or downgrading the firmware on your Blackberry so that SlingPlayer works on your Blackberry Bold 9700, I read somewhere (I believe that it was on the SlingCommunity forum) that it might take awhile for Sling Media to actually fix the problem on the Blackberry since they are either concentrating their efforts on an Android version and/or waiting for Blackberry to release OS 6 on their devices.

Looks like it depends on what Slingbox you have. I tried it on my Pro HD and it worked fine. Not so on my Solo. See here.

I heard a little audio and then it cr@pped out so I am guess the difference between H.264 and WMV is causing the problem.

Your theory might be correct. I tried it on my Slingbox Classic (which gives a warning message saying that SlingPlayer Mobile is not compatible with it but it still worked with my previous 593 version) as well as my SlingPlayer Solo. Both gave the error message after maybe 1 or 2 successful runs of it on the lowest quality and the latest firmware (requiring a battery pull in order for it to work again once or twice before a battery pull was required again).

Unfortunately, I don't have a Slingbox HD to test it the latest Blackberry firmware with.

You will get the warning with the Classic box but that you can disregard. I get the same with my Solo. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. If you do get the error message from my experience you have to do a battery pull before you retry.

I made a video of the working and non-working slingbox SlingPlayer on BlackBerry Bold 9700 and OS .743 | SlingPlayer Mobile | Forums |
just so folks can see that it actually did work with the Pro HD. But the latest Slingplayer has been kinda buggy in itself so adding in the new OS makes it hard to tell what exactly the problem is.

The guys who are having issues on 9700, have you tried using the domain name/IP? Here is my story. I have a 9700 on T-mo, running 5.0.0.743. It worked fine with 1.0.0.13 version of SPM over wifi, but when I tried connecting, it borked during locating on mobile, giving me "no slingbox finder server connection" error. I am running a Slingbox Pro at home, 1.4.60 firmware. After checking several forums and couldn't find a solution, I went in to my Slingbox directory, I added my box using its fully qualified domain name and port 5001 (I am using a dynamic DNS). Voila, it connected just fine. There seems to be an issue on Slingbox's end locating the unit somehow.

I hope this helps someone.

For me, I was not able to get SPM to work reliably over WiFi with 743 so your solution probably wouldn't work for me. I'm not willing to upgrade the firmware again because it requires approximately 1.5 hours for me to upgrade the firmware, reinstall the programs (which it does automatically), configure the programs manually, and find/enter the necessary serial numbers again.

Weird, for me it worked very stable on both .743 and 6.0 hybrid based on .743. But I know the pain of upgrading, so I don't blame you
