Default Esc, Menu key, trackball press does not work. plz help

Please Login to Remove!

After a day I turned on my phone and went to use it like normal. Quickly it came to my attention that the buttons weren't working right. When I press my call button (The green one), It goes to the call log and types the letter "a" or both "ad". The menu button would go to the call log and type "w" or "we". When I pressed the pearl down it types the letter "x", the back button types "*".

This problem wouldn't allow me to access various stuff on my phone and if I did I couldn't go back. I wasn't able to accept calls or send them out without using voice dialing.

I have been trying to work around this problem but now today the delete button is typing "x7" when I press it.

All the other buttons seem to be working fine.

I have tried resetting the phone by taking the battery out for a few minutes and putting it back in but it hasn't done anything.

Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Wirelessly posted (White and Nerdy)

This sounds like a normal case of moisture damage... Have u gotten it wet? Took it in the bathroom during a shower? Been with it in high humidity area?

Well, if the replacement is gonna go into the same humid environment, it will likely suffer the same fate.

Maybe Blackberry's aren't the right device for the OP.

Thanks a lot guys.

Why are blackberry devices so sensitive to humid environments? While devices from other manufacturers work great in such environments...So sad to hear this about blackberry. I am disappointed :(

My personal opinion is that as cell phones become more complex, they also become more susceptible to things such as moisture and shock unless they are specifically designed for such rough environments.

What devices specifically? Are you talking generically about simple cell devices?

My son has the exact same problem. It could also just be age. If you have insurance on your device contact them and get a replacement. Or upgrade to something else. It sucks I know. We found out if you have the insurance through TMO, they will replace any device you have connected to your phone line including unlocked devices. How cool is that. So a replacement will cost $90. I dont know if I want to pay that or just wait to see if they are going to get the new Pearl.

Theres a few GOTCHA's in that insureance tho...

Claim must be made within 30 days of loss or they will deny the claim.

ASSurion (my emphasis on ASS) will deny any claim they can, they are a ripoff.
