My 8320 has gone NUTS!
Please Login to Remove!
Something is seriously up with my BB Curve 8320 today. It was working fine this morning.
Then all of a sudden, I was sending a text message and all these screens started popping up and the message sent itself before I was done.
Now if I hit the call log/call key (the green one) it goes to my address book.
None of the numbers work. It was going to letters when I tried to type in a phone number.
And as of the last five mins, the trackball isn't working either!
Can someone help??!

Any slight chance it has gotten wet? Those issues are often symptomatic of moisture damage. Look first at the small white sticker above the battery area in the back.
Meanwhile, remove the battery and replace to reboot the device... still acting up?

nope, not anything more than normal. It was working... and then it wasn't. Very weird.
I took it to the T-Mobile shop and they were unfortunately, pretty useless. Said that I was under warranty since I've only had it 8 months but didn't have any true tech people look at it.
What's annoying is that should I qualify for a replacement, I have to pay $10-15 for shipping. And they made me come home so I can use my computer to back the whole thing up and reinstall the software first, I'm actually waiting for them to call and walk me through it.
Should I need a new phone, however, what happens to the programs I paid to download? Like BB alerts and all that?

Before doing a handset exchange, I would try the battery pull and if that doesn't work wipe then reload the device. If you backup your applications then you should be okay to reload them with no issues. I'm not sure if that also applies to the ones you paid for.
When you think about it, if you get a replacement (and it won't be brand new but a refurbished phone) you'll end up reloading all your stuff anyway.

Well, I did do a few battery pulls.... like 18. ;)
They did one in the shop, too.
The thing is, the only app I actually paid for was BB Alerts, but if I remember correctly, I did it on the phone, without using the desktop launcher (because embarassingly, I can't seem to figure out how it works)
The other thing I'm a little troubled about is that I hadn't backed up my phone in awhile, and while it did connect to desktop manager, it doesn't seem to be syncing my phone book. Any ideas about that?
Is there a place where I can view the numbers in my phonebook on my PC through that desktop app?
thanks!

you need to set up a PIM program like Microsoft Outlook to sync/view/edit contacts on your PC.

Thanks for all the info, guys ^^
So, I spent about an hour on the phone with T-Mobile and we did some application reloading and all that jive, and we got my phone to "unlock" the keys, but unfortunately...
the space bar key produces "nm"
the "m" key produces "nm"
and the "z" key produces "nm"
the other keys appear to work.
I cannot for the life of me figure this out.
Anyway, T-Mobile is sending me a new phone (or a "nearly new" phone) but truth be told, I really just wish I could salvage this one.
Oh and to answer an earlier question, the little square by the battery was white.

Good, I was about to ask that again. However, that would be the FIRST thing usually a TMo rep in the store might look at, and if it were anything but white, they would not be offering your the replacement device.
So, for a backup, you have Desktop Manager loaded? Open that first. Then plug in your BB to the USB direct to the PC, not through a USB hub or a monitor port, direct to the back of the PC.
Soon, your PIN should show at the bottom of the Desktop Manager application, and say "connected". Does it?
Then click on backup. Watch where it saves that file, you will want to use the backup to restore to your new BB device when it comes.
You will probably need to re-buy BBAlerts, as I do believe its registration is tied to the device PIN.
If you use Outlook, you can sync your contacts to it as well, as a safety measure for when you get the replacement BB.
Good luck.
PS: Do you carry your BB in a holster all the time. Or your pocket, purse, etc., with no holster?

Are you sure the input language didn't get changed? Check in Options >Language.
If it's not that, then I'd say you got some moisture in the keyboard. Use the Desktop Manager to make a backup, as suggested above. Don't worry about "syncronizing." Just make the backup. Then you can restore that backup to any BlackBerry.

The whole thing is pretty strange. I'm still tinkering with it and now some of those keys that were acting up before are slowly coming back, though not 100%. Like, now when I hit the space key, it gives me a space followed by an "n". There is something to the N key.
And funny moisture should be mentioned. I actually brought my phone into the bathroom this morning (I don't normally do this) because I was expecting an important call and I left it on a shelf in the room (certainly didn't bring it into the shower or anything!) ;) I wonder if that caused all of this?
Weird, weird.

And yes, I did do a backup, thank goodness...that hopefully worked. I saved it on my desktop for easy access.

Bringing it in the shower can cause this. It gets moisture in the keypad and will cause problems like this. If it's changing what it's doing then I'd say its a moisture problem.

funny enough, it wasn't even a long shower! I was in and out in 5 mins! I figured it would be okay sitting on my towel on a shelf.
anyway, I'm not telling T-Mobile that.
Do you think there's a possibility it can return to normal?

Yes, it will dry out. You might try dropping it in a bag of uncooked rice for a day or so. That will help suck the moisture out.
If you open the battery cover is there a small white or red square near the battery?

It's a moisture indicator. If it turns red it means its been exposed to moisture. However, the fact that it's still white doesn't mean that moisture didn't get into the keyboard. It just means your warranty is still valid!
