Yes a new Blackberry for NEXTEL is on it's way. I have spoken with a few people at NEXTEL who have told me it will be launched this fall, the rumors I have heard are that yes it will have G.P.S. with a few other tweaks, I have also heard that the color of the unit will either be Green like a sprite bottle or Red if it is red they have already nicknamed it the Raspberry

I am not sure who you talked to at Nextel but there is no new BlackBerry coming at this time. There is absolutely nothing in beta testing for a Nextel device.

I agree with BB Tech. I'm an indirect for Nextel, Sprint, ATT, and T-Mobile. To be honest I haven't heard a thing about Nextel launching a new BlackBerry. The only thing on the slate to be released this fall is the I930 Smartphone of theirs, which I must add looks to be pretty amazing for Nextel.

That is where I am... Stuck in the middle... I love my PocketPC and love my Blackberry and the smartphone like the i930 seems to be what I need, but I am addicted to my Blackberry Email and also want to but a new Dell Axim X30 with bluetooth GPS, but that is all I would use it for, GPS... So I am stuck.... Any way to sway me one way or another?

hmm, Personally, I'd stick with the BB. BB has Email push, the I930 will have to go out, in intervals of 30 minutes in order to retrieve email, much like the V600 is now. The only thing the BB won't have over the I930 IMHO is the camera and video recording. My advice as you live in Reading, hit the fiargrounds mall (I think that's the mall up there, can't remember), go see someone at One Wireless World once the I930 hits the market, and ask to play with it. Unfortunatly here in PA Reading and Philly markets only carry the phones, everywhere else in the state has to have them ordered via Nextel Partners EOE.

Thanks for the info.... Yeah we have the Fairgrounds Mall and Berkshire Mall here is Reading and King of Prussia is only about 35 minutes away as well... I love the Blackberry for the email and looks like I will be sticking with it.... I use about 10 - 15 MB a month of service as well, so I have the unlimited plan.... Thanks again....

I also work as a Real LArge AR for Nextel and since my last post I spoke to a D.A.E Data Account executive to double check my info and he told me a new one is on the way, it is Green and looks like a 7510, he also showed me a Picture of it. My DAE has always given me great inside info, so I will not second guess him now. I respect everyone's Opinion so repect mine.....

When will it arrive? I've not heard anything yet myself, not even my nextel rep said anything about it. Might have to ask him next time I see him. Please do tell when it will come, noone didn't respect your opinions, noone bashed, yelled, flamed, nothing. However if you've heard something, it's a bit more beleive able other then "It's coming soon". ANywho, green? Ick, why nextel will go green is beyond me, they've been black/silver/blue as long as they've been around. When's this bad boy coming with gps?

The day I posted that there is no new Nextel device I turned around and saw one

However, the ones I saw were all blue and looked identical to a 7510. They are in the first hardware revisions so who knows what color they will be and who knows when they will be released.

Scott,
I hope the new device will have a less obtrusive antenna. That is my only pet peave with my 7510. In fact, does anyone know if the after market antenna stubs that I've seen fit the 7510? I'd love to have a small stationary antenna that doesn't stick so high.

I believe there are IDEN network specific antennas. And replacing them with a GPRS antenna would kill your reception.

Yeah, lots of people replaced the Nextel's i730 antenna with the Motorola 720's stub antenna and it worked okay, but there were some off brands that would kill the reception as well....

Higher frequency phones do better with shorter antennas because of the condensed wave, lower frequency phones do better with bigger antennas, and Nextel's run in the 800mhz band (I think it's 826 or so for send and like 829 for receive)

Even so, the 7510 has some of the best reception of all the nextel phones, so you think you could sacrafice a little for a stubby antenna.

There is a new BB from Nextel. It is going to be black, and have chrome highlights around the screen. I don't know about the antenna, but it will have GPS and talk of Bluetooth or possible WiFi support? Launch is expected late this year/early next year. It is also supposed to be "ruggedized" so that more blue collar/field workers can use the device without fear of breaking it.

Ruggedized would be goooood.

I've been lucky with mine. I broke a 6510 (only the trackwheel after a fall down a flight of metal stairs), and my 7510's been in the toilet with no ill effects. (yet)

Also, I'd like to see the GPS. I can't get over how much I want that.

The antenna on the 7510 is a working antenna and does make a difference in reception, so while I also do not like the design of the antenna, I would never remove it completly.
