Default New City - GPS Lock on time

Please Login to Remove!

I just arrived in a new city. My GPS took quite a while to lock onto the sattellites in the new city (like 10min). What do others experience?

What you are experiencing is normal with GPS technology. I have used GPSs since they were only available to military. When you first turn on a GPSr the unit downloads the alminac. This information tells it where to expect to find the birds. Periodic updates are also downloaded. When turn on the unit it expect to see the birds based on the position where it was turned off. Normally this isn't a problem, but when you travel several hundred miles before turning it back on, it can take sometime to acquire a lock on the birds. Don't worry, this is normal.
