Default CDMA Seidio Rubberized Hard Case for GSM Phone?

Please Login to Remove!

I saw a Seidio Rubberized case for the 8330 at a local Verizon store for $25. I read around the forums, and it sounds like the Seidio's CDMA cases for the Curve don't work for the GSM phones (I have an 8300). Why is that?

Different sizes I would imagine, the inerds are going to be different and CDMA phones are typically bigger than the GSM brothers/sisters

I don't think that's it. I actually snapped the case onto my 8300 at the store and did a tiny bit of testing. Calling out worked, and the speakerphone did too.

Well most of the 83xx things work for each one across the board...maybe some people have just had problems with it so Seidio started selling cases for the 8300 and also the 8330. Maybe one bad mold caused alot of problems

Well I'm not sure about that. A Seidio rep on this forum warned users, unprompted, that the CDMA cases are incompatible with GSM curves. I'm going to contact Seidio about it, but customer support people aren't always very well informed about stuff like this, so I thought I'd ask here too to find out if anyone knew. More idle curiosity than anything else, since it'd be something like a $10 saving.

Thanks, btw, for the thoughts!

Actually, you're right BCollins.

I got in touch with Seidio (surprisingly painless to do that, btw), and they said that the devices are roughly the same size, but some of the speaker holes and such are laid out differently on the CDMA phones.

Thinking back, I remember at the store that the LED light was covered up by the CDMA case on my 8300. Probably the speaker holes were misaligned, too, and I just didn't notice it. I thought, stupidly, it was just a design flaw in the cases.

So that's that, thanks again for the thoughts!

i saw that case @ verizon. i really liked it. so then, i went onto ebay to look for one. i got one for $5. here's a link:

ok, nevermind. the forum won't let me link, because i have less than 10 posts. lol.

the seller's name was accsation. you should see me under purchases>eye_reezy. it's a great case though. just like that verizon one, for 1/5 the price. clicks on great. i love it.

Here's my experience... I tried a black seido case from my old 8310 on my new 8330 when I first got it. Didn't work, the case wasn't big enough. I had to buy another case for my 8330 which snapped on without an issue.

Even seidos website said that the old cases would not work with the new CDMA versions.

Edit, nevermind the post below (I left the links for others to use), I see you got the one pictured in the first link, and that you know it's a generic case. I'll definitely check this out.

Aira, thanks for the heads up on the cases accstation's selling on eBay. Are either of the following the case you purchased?

Black Hard Phone Case for AT&T Blackberry 8300 Curve - eBay (item 370061146919 end time Jul-16-08 03:22:01 PDT)

or

NEW BLACK CASE COVER SKIN for BLACKBERRY CURVE 8310 - eBay (item 300242092670 end time Jul-15-08 20:54:00 PDT)

?

Neither seem exactly like the Seidio one at the Verizon store. In fact, the listing says that these are "generic" cases. Not that the brand matters much to me, just the quality of the case. And for $5, I'm willing to risk it.

Thanks again for linking!

Sharpycl: you're right that Seidio says the GSM cases don't work with the CDMA phones. But in my experience, the CDMA cases do fit the GSM phones, just that the holes don't line up correctly. Maybe it wasn't as snug a fit as I'd get with a GSM model.

Hey guys...just wanted to add to this discussion. The CDMA version is .6mm larger than the GSM, and the top is laid out differently. Since our cases are so precise, the GSM version will not snap closed on the CDMA phone. The CDMA case may fit the GSM Curve, but the styling is different so it won't look as good as the model designed for it.

Thanks,

Wirelessly posted (All the cool kids are doing it)

That's what I thought I wasn't looking at the cases but I figured it would be some strange thing that is causing it to be different and if it's a different size by that much it wouldn't fit.

Good to hear from Seidio themselves though

I just bought one at verizon for my tmobile 8320 and it seems to fit perfect. Can't find any problems with fit or with things lining up. Did notice it does seem to cover a little of the led. Other wise great case, no shipping, no waiting!
