Whenever I have my BB in my backpocket, it will be at the "enter PIN" for Sim-card, when I tyke it out from time to time.

First, I thought, this is a crash, but now, I found out, the device will shutdown itself wheter or not is it locked or in standby mode, when the "End Call" key is pressed for longer then 10 seconds - which might happen when I sit on a chair.

This is not only annoying, it simply does not make any sense.
If I want to lock the device, nothing then an emergency call should be possible.

Does anyone know if there is a workaround for this ?

The workaround would be to buy a carry case that clips on top your belt or a hard case that protects the buttons or provide some sort of "barrier" between the phone and your butt.

I would not recommend that you place your phone in your pocket so that you sit on it, really not a good idea.

Right, I have tried this manual workaround - it does work.
However, I feel I am looking strange carrying the BB like this.

I now sit on the BBs since several years, and, besides from the occasional shutdown they did not suffer damages.
the 7290 did not have this problem (!).

The 9700 comes with a new holster, you can put the BB in it, and then, put the complete thing in your back pocket. But then, you need not only to pull it out from your pocket, when taking a call, you have to extract it from the holster - difficult.

Do you have a 9000 or a 9700?

Shutdown key, is also end call key, so as far as im aware, no you couldn't disable it.

I had a 9000 and now have a 9700 since a few days - same behaviour.
