I just got my new Pearl and am still familiarizing with it. I noticed that sometimes the keyboard (and the trackball) is lit and sometimes it is dark (while the screen is still lit). I like the lit screen/dark keyboard combination in sitautions where there is enough ambient light, i.e. in most situations. However, I have been unable to find out, when the keyboard turns dark and when it lights up. Ist it related to the ambient light sensor? Can I switch the light off manually (on Rogers)?

Yep, there is an ambient light sensor that auto adjusts the Screen and KB. Bright in dark ambiances and dim in bright or a mix depending on ambiance and if you're using the KB or not. At this time I do not believe it can be disabled.

i am so used to suretype with my 7100 that the light doesn't matter to me on the 8100.

would be better I think personally if the user could determine the dim function
