opera mini problems

I've been using the beta 2 version of Opera Mini since it was released, and has worked fine. Lately, every time I try to connect, it mentions something about trying to access a "low level network connection" and prompts me for a yes/no. This is on connection type of socket. when I change it to http, it again warns me that the device is trying to connect to the internet (well, duh! it's a browser...)
Also, once it asked me to input random data and press random keys before it tried to access the internet, and to do so until the little progress bar was full. I"ve never seen that before. What's up with that?
none of my settings have changed. I just upgraded to the newest OS (4.2.2.173 for my 8300) hoping that might fix it; it did not. I uninstalled Opera and then reinstalled it, and have the same problems. While I can live with this, it is just strange that all of a sudden, out of nowhere, it behaves like this.
anyone else experiencing similar things?
