I have the 8300 with an 8Gb media card, full of music files which I do not change and have worked fine for the last 4 years.

This month, about a quarter of the music files have simply disappeared. The media card still shows the card as being full. The remaining music files still play fine and are not corrupted.

Is this a known issue?

Are the files there when you plug the card into a reader on your computer?

I tried that - no they are not.

All that remains of them are their titles in the playlists which I have created.

It sounds like your card has gotten corrupted over time. I think the cheapest solution is to just get a new media card, although a new device is likely in order as well.
