The phone looks great, but the statement you made above is misleading. No black 8830's were made for verizon, it's just a replacement case, if someone who didn't know better purchased this and tried to do a exchange would have their warranty voided by Verizon.

Verizon will not honor a warranty for a device you bought from someone. When you activated it, it is activated as "Customer Provided Equipment." Verizon will not replace your device regardless.

They have, I sold a 8830 to a friend, and soon after the usb port stopped taking a charge and they replaced it free of charge. And I purchased the device myself off of ebay.

What about my statement is untrue? There are, in fact, a very small amount of black Verizon 8830s floating around out there with black cases on them.

While Verizon themselves produced no black 8830s, we, the user community produced a couple, hand-built, lovingly-crafted examples.

So there.

Anyway, I shipped the silver case along with the unit and would hope anybody unfortunate enough to require warranty work on the thing would swap the case out for the silver one.
