Default I'm missing something...please help

Please Login to Remove!

Ok, I have BES set up at work, my IT guy did this wirelessly. I wanted to set up my home computer with the desktop manager so that I can use the media manager - send mp3/4 music to my blackberry. After downloading the manager, I was careful to set standard synch for date and time only, which I wanted an option to only sync media but that did not appear available. AND I deselected the check mark to sync automatically BUT it did anyway. It did not wipe out any of my emails or calendars but my Today theme no longer has my calendar appointments set up. I tried to send an email from my desktop email but it did not work. What am I doing wrong? If I use BES can I not not ever set up the desktop manager. Please HELP...my IT guy is going to shoot me if I have to ask him again to reactivate me...uuuggh

Default Not sure...

I am such a greenhorn, I didn't understand what your directions were. My access at work is totally wireless. My IT guy just put in a password and I was set.

When you say "type of access" what do you mean? Wireless, USB - BES/BIS...

All I would like to be able to do is stay on my BES for push email and calendar appointments at work and be able to transfer music from my home computer to my blackberry. It seems simple enough. What and why am I wiping out my activation with BES when I sync my computer with the BB?...

You probably installed DM at home with the BES option. Uninstall and then reinstall using the BIS option. It's not really asking you if you're on BES (you are). It's really asking if the PC that you're installing DM on has direct network access to the BES server. I'm betting that at home you don't.

Installing DM with the BES option at home will definitely break your BES connection when you connect your BB. You'll need to get IT to reactivate you.

If you're just transferring files, I highly recommend just using Mass Storage Mode. Your media card will appear as a removable drive when you connect via USB. You don't even need Desktop Manager or (the bloated and flakey) Media Manager. Avoiding DM & MM also reduces the risk of breaking your BES connection as you have just done...

Good luck with it. Definitely ask away if you still have questions or problems.

You can. You just have to be careful -- particularly with home installs of DM.

Thank you!!!! I had my IT guy reactivate my BES this morning, thank goodness he is a friendly and flexible guy. I tried on a different computer last night just using the mass storage mode and that worked fine. I agree, the DM seenm to be a heavy burden more than anything of help. I appreciate the feedback and this forum!
