Can someone explain how to use the visual TRACK SCREEN? When I roll to it, occasionally I see a zoomed image but then it shrinks. Is there a way to zoom in/out or move around it?

The problem with displaying km in the GPSed is still being fixed by our developers. It is expected to be done by the end of the next week.

We are sorry for the inconvenience!

We are sorry that you have lost your track.
We are working on this issue also.
This is also must be fixed with the next release.

I don't know what happened but gps-ed crashed and took my hiking data/route with it - it actually crashed in each direction. When I got to the summit, I created a waypoint and then go Uncaught exception - track GONE. After lunch up there, I restarted it with a new track and when I got back to the car I went to stop the track and again it crashed Uncaught exception.

It had been working fine last weekend.

Just wondering if you are storing any permanent info or some such that would suddenly trigger this behavior?? I was most disappointed - my 4 mile trek up 3,800 feet, half of it snow disappeared in a flash!

Edited to add: It was still crashing last evening. Anytime I rolled the trackball to the right to scan through the screens it would "uncaught exception" on the 3 right scroll.

I deleted gps-ed and will reinstall and see what happens.

Edited to further add: I have NOT reinstalled. But I will moderate my chagrin - on using Media Player's explore I found both the up hill and downhill tracks were saved to my memory - so it was not a total loss.

Others are reporting that rolling the trackball to see other screens also causes Uncaught Exceptions.

Do the gps-ed track contain info on which version was used? I thought that I used the current beta for a few weeks but suddenly it has problems. Is there a problem with it storing TRACK locations? I had moved some of my older tracks to my SD card to free up internal memory. If gps-ed is still expecting to find the older tracks, I could see it "barfing."

The track don't contain this information.
The new version will always recognize ("see") the tracks you have previously recorded.
If you are going to upload these tracks make sure the path for uploading is set up correctly.
So no problems should arise here.

Go into the setup. It allows you to change it. You will need to restart the app though.

Newest version is much better in terms of crashes.

Still needs work filtering the GPS's, I am sitting still at .4 miles an hour.

I tried GPSed out this morning for the first time. I got disappointed. I didn't get any crashes. However, the GPS connection kept droping during my 12 miles run. What made it even worse is that GPSed can't get reconnect to GPS by itself. Whenever it dropped the GPS signal I have to manually exit the GPSed and restart the application again, then tell it to continue to track. I am using T-Mobile 8320 with Freedom KeyChain GPS Puck. I put the GPS puck in my water bottle belt packet on my waist and held the BB in my hand. I was running in an open area without trees and building. It tried other GPS softwares. They all worked well without lost fix.

Is there anyone else experienced similar situation as me? How could I prevent the GPS signal drop?

Thanks,

I have the puck attached to my 8830 using a short wrist lanyard so they are pretty much attached to each other. I know the Bluetooth signal can be interrupted by "body parts" so that may be the issue. I know that if I use my S9 Motorola stereo headphones, that if the BB is in a belt pack on my left side, it works pretty well but if I place the BB in a left pants pocket while out walking the signal breaks up badly - just a matter of about one foot and signal degrades.

Altho you did say that other gps programs do hold the signal???

I've successfully tracked a 67 mile bike ride over about 6 hours without any loss but again, attached by short lanyard.

It looks like once I select the setting to "Allow others to view my position" on the website, anyone can view my position in real-time. Can I selectively share my position only with my friends and family?

Otherwise all you need is the registered username on gpsed.com (which is easy to get) and you can locate them at anytime...

Yet to try this app. Will try on my way back home...

spbbp, this option allows everyone to see your position, you cannot select someone specifically.

As an alternative you can start a track, leave it as private, share it as described here Private Tracks sharing | GPSed Blog, provide your friends and family the link to your track. When you are contuniuing writing this track (the track is LIVE), your beloved will see your position in real-time.

Shape,

Is there a note on the FAQ to indicate roughly how much data is passed for uploading tracks? It'd be nice to know for us data-starved Canadian Blackberry users...

Thanks!

legacyb4, there are only everage numbers I can give you, because the data really depends on the number of waypoints, of the track direction changes, stops, etc.

1 waypoint is about 50 bytes.
On avarage, there are 25 points per minute (in case of an active movement). When you stop or have a steady movement (i.e. on the highway) traffic is much less, for about 5-10 times.

So, for a half hour track it's about 20kb aproximately. Really approximately.

Sounds about right. I just copied over my first track (672 points, ~35KB, including about 5 waypoints with streetnames).

Very nice app; I did notice that it did show some odd numbers here and there though (negative elevation, max speed much higher than what I would have been able to travel) but overall, kudos on an app that actually delivers what was promised (free, no less!).

Cheers.

Shape, just wanted to let you know that GPSed works on OS 4.5 even though the download said it doesn't support it.

I had #2 Problem. Apparently not converting on phone. Buggy.
