Yup, one of the reasons I'd given up on OperaMini is that it required the APN which produced some extra charges on my bill. From the write up on the new OperaMini beta I haven't seen anything that mentions wifi, which really sucks.

BBweather is also out - that uses APN settings too.

Can't remember what username/password I used to have on my APN settings, but it was directed to mobile.o2.co.uk, and that was what was showing up under the data charges part of my bill.

r u guys saying
1 Internet Browser is the blackberry.net setting .... You can browse for free using this as much as you want, with in reason?

2 any other access is not free?

thus I have these two sub questions

If blackberry.net is free then why am I paying my £10 a month for unlimited [within reason] access.

or is my £10 getting me the unlimited [within reason] access to blackberry.net

does anyone have up to date information re: free access?

I downloaded and installed the Opera Mini-Browser on my o2 BB Pearl over two months ago, and have never been charged for data...........

I have looked at my APN settings, and they are blank..........

I have downloaded and installed shozu shozu.com and that won't work. and on the shozu forum, it suggests that I need the APN settings. I don't ish to do this if I'm going to get charged above and beyond my data rate which is a flat £10 for xxx MB's..........

Default O2(uk) Apn

Yes, I can 100% confirm that O2 are con artists. Just got off the phone with O2 as to why I'm getting £70-100/month bills when I'm on an unlimited blackberry data-only plan for about £40/mth. The rep gave me some nonesense about only surfing through the blackberry website portal and, once there, use the 'Go To..' command to browse the internet - this is supposed to allow me to surf through blackberry.net. I don't actually believe any of this to be true so I've deleted the APN settings in Options>Advanced Options>TCP on my 8800. This should work right?

It's correct that blackberry.net is free under the unlimited bundle but I can confirm that those damn TCP/APN settings, using mobile.o2.co.uk, cost a bloody fortune!! Here is a sample of my call detail report as proof!

Date/Time Dialled Number KB Cost Call Type Tag
09/10/08 19:24:57 blackberry.net 113 0.00 GPRS call N
09/10/08 20:34:37 mobile.o2.co.uk 15 0.09 GPRS call N
10/10/08 00:04:36 mobile.o2.co.uk 155 0.91 GPRS call N
10/10/08 10:12:35 blackberry.net 177 0.00 GPRS call N
10/10/08 18:34:58 blackberry.net 42 0.00 GPRS call N
10/10/08 20:05:40 mobile.o2.co.uk 15 0.09 GPRS call N
11/10/08 00:43:38 mobile.o2.co.uk 121 0.71 GPRS call N

If I use my blackberry browser (set to 'Internet Browser') is this now through 'blackberry.net'? Anything else I need to do to avoid the 'mobile.o2.co.uk' charge? I'll keep you guys updated on the data charges next month now that I've deleted the TCP settings.

Wirelessly posted (Katerpillars on the air!)

This is one of the major reasons I left o2 for Vodafone, o2 charge for pretty much everything.

I have it directy from Vodafone in writing that any web use, however done from my BB is included in my data plan (excluding tethering).

Also VF's data limit is 500mb per month vs 200mb on o2!

Plus they chucked in 18 months free Sat Nat as well with the Bold

It is costing me, according to the online bill, and to the representative I talked to (after two other people telling me, before I bought the bolt on, of course, that everything was free... HATE o2.). But:
world wide web decimal point my-blackberryfromo2 point com

/documents/BlackBerry_Consumer_Tariff_Table_April_2008.pdf

[sorry too low post count]
which seems to tell us that it's all included.
