My usb port was toast and had it repaired. Now the computer does not recognize the device. I need to upgrade the OS. Is there a way to upgrade if I save the new OS on media card and install from there? How about install upgrade using Bluetooth? Maybe someone can suggest something better?

Use a friends computer? I am pretty sure there is no way to use the media card or Bluetooth to update cause the phone needs to reboot itself during an update. Best bet is to get your usb port working again (have you reinstalled the drivers?) or use a friends computer

Yeah, we have 3 laptops computer at home and I connected to all computers and they all cannot recognize my Pearl. How can I check whether I have the driver?

You know... updating the firmware via media card would be a great idea! I would see the procedure as something like this:

1. Insert a media card with only the firmware in it and have enough space to back up the device.
2. Power on the phone while pressing some special key combination.
3. BlackBerry walks you through the upgrade procedure.
4. Backup information on memory card, perform upgrade, restore. Backup stays on the card after the restore process.
5. Take out the card and insert your regular one.

When i plug my Pearl, it gave message "USB device has malfunctioned". I tried to reinstall balckberry hardware & driver, still not working. Is there anything I can do to my Pearl to restore it or I need to get the USB repaired again?

I guess you have to be as much a geek as me to get this:

That USB port repair is the problem; the PC isn't seeing the USB port on the BB, probably because of some missed wiring or a gate burn-out.

I would recommend a factory fix.
