Default Blackberry keypad backlight flickers 24/7

Please Login to Remove!

I have an 8320 and my blackberry keypad has started flickering. The only occasion where it does not flicker is when I am using the keypad.

Even when the device is off (with the battery in) it still flickers.

I have tried removing the battery for longer than a minute and will try upgrading my OS (the 4.5.0.18 ).

Anymore ideas are welcome.

First, I'd get 4.5.0.18 off of there and load the latest, 4.5.0.52 as you mention.

Second, has the device ever gotten any liquid or moisture? I've never heard of the problem you describe.

No moisture and I did not drop it/do any other physical damage.

The really strange part is when I pop in the battery after I have taken it out of the curve, the flicker starts immediatly (which probably means it is a hardware issue).

Yeah, kinda sounds that way. I would load the Rogers officially released OS and then look at getting a warranty replacement.

Thanks for your help John Clark, but I bought the 8320 via ebay about 5 months ago. It was t-mobile branded - so I don't think calling RIM will help either.

I installed the new OS. The first time I tried to install it it killed my blackberry (gave me an circle, square and triangle icon).

Since I installed the new OS 0.69, the flicker is gone (it flickers ever so slightly arbitrarily twice in a row). However the keyboard backlight still remains lit no matter what (only if the battery is out) but this time it is dimmer then before.

Keep in mind if I touch the keyboard the backlight keyboard will go to 100% brightness where as when it is dim (no activity) it is at about 5%

Strange.

The circle, square and triangle isn't a "kill." Just means no OS loaded and was likely due to a USB port issue. Anyway, as you found it's easily fixed. I have no idea what to do about the keypad lighting issue, though.

I am just glad the flicker is gone (for now).

I will let you know if the flicker comes back.

On a more positive note, I have the only curve in the world that I can find in the dark no matter what.

Problem is, you'll have the one with the deadest battery

haha,

I don't think the keypad is bright enough to consume that much power, plus I charge my phone every night.

Honestly there are so many little things wrong with my curve (lots of chips on my buttons, keypad paint wearing off, noticeable backlight leakage, sd card doesn't work properly, dust under the screen, squeaky casing, peeling rubber) that I just don't care.
