I would suggest re-reading the first post here... But when they post newest rev's of software's its from all vendors. We just strip em down so vendor files don't matter.

Which one should be selected.

ATT links to BBs downloads area, and shows v4.2.1.155 (Multilanguage) as the highest level for the hand held (8700C) and 4.3 on the desktop.

Any input/feedback is appreciated.
Yes, this OS will work fine on your device.

FYI, I've tried twice (uninstalling and reinstalling as well) and 4.5 will not install without bricking my 8700C.

It will just sit there and blink red every few minutes.

I used apploader and the older 4.2 from AT&T to get my phone working again.

Are there multiple versions of the 8700C out there?

Default 3 8700's loaded today

Hi everyone...

I loaded 2 loaner 8700's and one test user today for a total of 3. The load went fine on all 3 and was seamless. I am using DM 4.6. Wiped all three units and ran through the update fine. All 3 units have the browser, spell check and additional tweeks the 4.5 OS offers.

I will update as we go a report any issues...

Thanks again for posting this update. The spell check is worth the update if that was the only new addition.

H.

Are these BES units? That's why they have a Browser. Non BES devices may not get a browser.

Yes, all BES units...

John, why would this make any difference? I never activated any of them except the one test user. Does the upgrade grab what was originally on the old OS? The one I activated was the test user and she has the same browser as the two loaners?

I know if you do not have a data plan the browser sometimes will not show. Is this the same then with users trying to use BIS?

I am monitoring the one test user as I would like to be able to upgrade the other 8700c users we have if this gives them the spell check. If this is stable, it would be great to upgrade the others. Same with .55 on the 8310's.

I have gone through lines and lines of code and do not see where AT&T hid their proprietary restriction for the wap (Cingular) browser, yet I cannot get the RIM Internet Browser to show up with OS 4.5.X.X...

Are you on BES?
I am wondering if John is correct?
Did you try a different theme?

I remember another trick regarding I think the security on the browser. There was a setting we used to do when the browser did not show up even though the account was provisioned for mobile data services. It was not the service book either...
I will try to remember this and get back to you... (was it re-register the host routing table?? (can't remember))

Anyone??

When a BB is activated on BES the "BlackBerry Browser" is enabled. The browser that is missing is the "Internet Browser." If one is on BES they can use the Blackberry Browser for most everything. However, if one is only on BIS then there is no browser. This will be the case until AT&T releases OS 4.5.

Question Problem installing

I downloaded and installed 4.5 on my 8700 yesterday with no problem. Today I ran the installation file on another PC, and when I connected the BB to the DM, it did not tell me that updates were available. I ran the application loader, and it showed nothing new to install. In Add/Remove programs BB OS Software 4.5 was listed. I uninstalled and reinstalled 3 times (each time I removed the Research in Motion Folder from Program Files > Common Files before installing). Still no upgrades available when connecting to DM. In the application loader, I clicked on Add and maneuvered to the Research In Motion Folder. In the "Shared" folder is a folder called "Loader Files". In that folder there is a folder called "8700 v4.5.0.55_P2.7.0.68. There are 16 alx files in that folder. Can I just manually add and install them?

Thanks in advance for any/all replies!

Wirelessly posted (BB 11020)

Make sure you deleted the vendor.xml file.

The link seems to work fine.

You can also download the 4.5.0.55 multilanguage firmware directly from Vodafone:

support.vodafone.de/publicfiles/8700M_PBr4[1].5.0_rel81_PL2.7.0.68_A4.5.0.55.exe

The link in the first post works fine. Just select "8700g Smartphone" in the dropdown list.
