Have you tried just reinstalling OS4.5?

Have you tried splitting the accounts so the email and texts are separated?

How would that help? And what account would you split? Separating texts from the Messages list is just a display function. It has nothing to do with emails being received or not.

Well, it seemed to have fixed itself in a way similar to what you said. Despite the install having completed properly and having run for a few weeks just fine, Desktop Manager said that the Core Applications needed updating (unclear why, since none of the check boxes indicated there was anything that needed updating). I let it go ahead and update and the problem went away.
Of course, I just realized that I no longer have CJK input, which is a whole 'nother issue.
Thanks

Are we sure there is a "leak"? Has anyone actually run out of memory, or are we just basing this on observations that the free memory is decreasing?
When I upgraded to .52 I noticed my free memory decreasing as I started using it. I was worried as well and rebooted it a couple times (battery pull) to keep it in check. After the first couple of days I stopped bothering and then one day I noticed it was under 9Meg after having about 19Meg free after the upgrade. A few days (a week?) later it was back up over 10Meg.
If the system is lazily reclaiming memory (garbage collection), it would tend to decrease on a perfectly working system until it reached a threshold and then the garbage collection would free up some memory.
Since then I've just been checking the memory every few days and it's always between 8 to 10.5 Meg free and varies a lot. No more battery pulls and I haven't ever "run out" of memory...?

My Curve has ver. 4.2.2.171 / platform 2.5.0.24. What noticeable differences will an OS upgrade give me, and it is worth doing? Thanks.

Ok.. I am the correct forum, downloaded the correct file, went through the same proceedures and still no luck..
In case people are in the dark about whats going on:
Quote:
I've ran into a situatation that I haven't ever experienced.. I downloaded the most current software for the 8320 (the east asia one). I installed the software like I used to with my 8700 then went in and delete the vendor.xml file in the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
I then start the desktop manager and it does its normal routine and then just sits there. Is there other files I have to mess with now? I am using the 4.6 version of the desktop manager and my phone's current os is 4.2.2.180
|
Should I downgrade to a lower version of the desktop manager?

Delete the vendor.xml file again. You shouldn't need to change your version of Desktop manager.

I can only delete the vendor file once.. It hasn't come back.. Has anyone ever had this problem before? Is there another file to manipulate?
Is the fact that I am using windows vista a problem?

Well, I've loaded up 81/55 and everything is working "ok". UMA seems flakier than the previous version, but at least now I have chinese input. YAY!!!!!
Does anyone know if the CJK.alx file is portable between versions of 4.5?

Has anyone nailed down a reason why Youtube videos don't seem to work for some people?
Slightly different problem with AAC+ files encoded with Nero. They play for 15 seconds, then error out!

It works... Video is a neat new feature but just about pointless considering the quality haha...
For some reason on the messages thing where it used to have the little folder icon and the check mark (when you have opened a message it would look just like before you did) it just shows a dot box which is pretty damn irritating. :-/ Other than that it works great.
From 4.2.2.180
The calender has been changed a bit to show a shadowed out next/last month lining up with it, something I always wanted. It also offers color coding and stuff now, pretty neat.
The phone book is HUGEEEEEE which is a little weird. There's a lot of wasted space between entries now instead of them just being right next to eachother..
The Tasks are a little different..
An option to set the number of retries for a text (I presume that means it will auto retry whenever a message doesn't send? Pretty sick.)
The browser has switched to a verizon stye (or opera, whichever you see it as) with a pointer and not as nice as it used to be IMO. I liked the whole being able to scroll around thing without a mouse..
Also, the addition of Documents To Go
Not sure what else yet.

The phone book has the extra space for "Company." It would be nice to have the option to make it one line but they have yet to do that.

Got it! Makes sense. The blackberry is designed to be a business phone so that should be top priority I suppose. That message icon is really irritating me lol I may switch back just because of that. I'm afraid to do a beta version.

Gah. My 8320 is locking up after updating to this new version. At first it seemed like it would only freeze when I was using ym memory card so I formatted it and put my data back on using the new folder system. Still locking up though.
I'm reloading the OS right now I'll let you know how it goes. One thing I did notice was that my ringtones (Ones I created and put on the BlackBerry) are like 3/4 the volume they were before, even on high. Anyone else experienced this?
