Well...it doesn't look like I will be able to upgrade. Twice now, I've gotten a message from DM about "a fatal error has occurred....upgrade could not be completed".

Are you plugging directly in to the PC? Don't use a hub or any kind of usb port not directly connected to the motherboard of your computer.

Yes, USB from BB to laptop. Now, DM isn't even reconizing the BB like it normally does. Device Connected (PIN):none

Sounds like a USB issue. Not a BB issue.

I got the BB to DM issue worked out. Any idea of what might cause the "fatal error....upgrade not completed" message? I just upgraded DM from 4.3 to 4.6 today. I'm trying it again.
I also noticed that apps like Doc to go, DOD Root Certs, BB MDS Runtime aren't checked. Should they be?

You should install Docs To Go. The others aren't necessary. Not sure what causes the fatal error. Make sure the BB isn't plugged in while you are installing the software.

Thanks John. Docs to Go was the only one I added. The upgrade is working smoothly..........at the moment.

Can someone help me get the original ringtones/alert back on here. I saw an earlier post about moving the medialoader file and renaming it, but all I can find in program files>common files>RIM>Shared>Loader Files is net_rim_bb_media_tunebundles_qualcomm and net_rim_bb_medialoader_video_320x240_b. This was in the old OS file (Verizon 4.2.2.196). Those were as close to what I saw in an earlier post as I could find.
I assume it will be the tunebundle file that I need to rename, since it had the qualcomm at the end. Soem steps for doing this would help too.
Thanks

Jabo - that happened to me too. It required a restart of the system. I think it had to do with the uninstall I did of the previous OS that made the USB ports non-responsive. Once I rebooted, everything worked fine. But if that doesn't work, maybe throw the laptop out the window and get a new one??

Jabo -
i read on here somewhere that 4.5.0.77 didn't come with a ringtones and vibrate .cod file, and that it had to be moved from a previous version. I also tried moving net_rim_bb_media_tunebundles_qualcomm.cod from 4.2.2.196 to the new app folder, changing its 'qualcomm' to '8830' and then installing it, but it didn't work. So I'm downloading an older 4.5.x OS and will try to 'lift it' from there. I'll keep you posted.

That's all it takes. You must get the file from a 4.5 OS install.

OK - found the .cod file, changed the qualcomm to 8830, but can't figure out how to load it onto the HH. I tried running JavaLoader, but I get a quick flash of the DOS screen and then nothing. Tried JL_cmdr, but no option to load a file. How do I do it??

I got the qualcomm file from 4.5 OS but it was for an 8330. The file size is 644kb. Is it the same file? Also can you put this file in the java folder BEFORE you upgrade and it will add it to the OS during upgrade?

I downloaded Java Loader last night, from this site. If I have to use that to get the vibrate/ringers back on my phone, I will go back to the old OS. I just don't think I can do that(mess with JL), lol. I can do without the ringers, but the vibrate......no.

I have the most recent OS from Verizon, 4.2.2.196. The problem, I think, is that the only file that I can find that is close the the rim_bb_medialoader is rim_bb_tunebundle_qualcomm. I copied that file into the 4.5 OS file, replaced qualcomm.cod with 8830.cod, ran DM again.....nothing. It didn't show up when I went to use App Loader in DM.
I'm curious, could someone who has the correct rim_bb_medialoader_8830.cod file.....could they email that to me so I can use DM to get it onto my phone? I don't know enough about Java Loader to feel comfortable using it.

You can use App Loader in BB Download Manager to check for it. Connect your BB to DL Manager, open App Loader, then look for BB Maps there. It needs to be checked. If it isn't, put a check in the box then run App Loader.

I didn't, and mine worked. I got mine from my 4.2 install which is the only one I had before 4.5.77
