Default Can I force removal of applications using Software Configuration

Please Login to Remove!

If so, how would I force the removal of the Facebook Application?

We have blocked facebook on our Firewalls, but now I have been asked to force the removal of the application from all ther blackberries.

Is this possible?

You need to create a software config on the BES for the Facebook app and set it to Deny. That should do it.

Don't you need the ALX files to do that though?

Yup, you need the package with the cod and alx files. You can download the desktop install from RIM:

Doesn't disabling it within ITPolicies remove it?

If there is an IT Policy for Facebook in BES 4.1.6 then that should disable it, like disabling BB Messenger.

It's my understanding* that you cannot force the removal of applications currently on the BB when pushing a new software config.

The config will only prevent a user from installing the software going forward.
But... the user will not be able to re-load disallowed software once it's removed, after receiving the new software config.

I'm so smart, I'm smarter than me

True though, once installed, the app will not remove via a software config. I don't think anyways.

If you setup the config and assign it then you will see in 4 hours.

If not check the IT Policies, there might be one for Facebook enable/disable.

I did check again - there's no Facebook policy - thought there might be after they released WLM and a policy for that showed up.

After a quick search on RIM's TKC I found this:

BlackBerry Search Results

It's a KB on using a software config to remove third party apps. So I was wrong, not so smart afterall

This technically does not uninstall the app but hides it from view and disables it.

So my original post still stands true, so I'm still smart

1 question, will this only affect users with 1.2.0 installed or all versions of Facebook?

Does anyone have the .alx package for Facebook? You cannot download them from RIM any longer.

Excerpt from the KB article:
In the Device Software Configuration window, click the Policy drop-down list and select the Disallowed policy.
Note: This prevents all software from being installed on a specified BlackBerry smartphone. Any restricted software that is currently installed on a BlackBerry smartphone will be automatically removed by this software policy. To view all software that has been indexed, expand the Application Software heading. Then you can choose whether or not the listed software is required or optional.

If you set "DisAllowed" at the Application software level any third party software that is not defined and checked in the policy should be removed from the Blackberry.

By chance does anyone have a link to this process for BES 5.0?
