Default Decision Time - Sprint or Nextel for BB

Please Login to Remove!

Hi Guys,

Currently with Sprint but contract up this week on older flip phone. Moving over to Blackberry this weekend or early next week.

I have to make a decision - curious about your opinions:

Stay with Sprint on their CDMA network and acquire the 7250 or go with Nextel on the iDen network and use the 7520 Blackberry?

While very similar, the 7250 is missing the Speakerphone - which I will miss having to be sure. I hear and read on the fourms so many great things about Nextels BB service and next to nothing about folks on the Sprint network with their BB's. It's been really hard to do a meaningful comparison of the services.

It looks like Sprint may have better coverage in the continental U.S. on their network to support adavanced data services including BB. GSM or international is not important for me right now.

Cost aside (I am reimbursed for these expenses) what do you guys suggest?
Thanks in advance for all of your input and comments.

Rob . . . . . . . . . .

Do you know anyone on the Nextel network? If not its kind of a waste of cash for a 7520 since the only difference is the Direct connect. And thats the best feature to me saves me tons and tons of money

I just got my 7520 a couple of weeks ago and NEXTEL support has been nothing short of excellent. That being said the only question I would have would be NEXTEL's signal in your area? I am in a remote part of Illinois but we have great tower coverage here. I would go online to: http://nextelonline.nextel.com/NASAp...ge&language=EN

and check for coverage in your area. If nextel covers it well I would go there in a heart beat.

You have undoubtedly made your decision by now. Our company uses Nextel
so I had no choice. The Nextel 7520 is a great device, no complaints. The direct connect feature is really slick for short contacts with others on the network.

Short contact I carry on multi hour conversations with my people in California and in Conneticut as well as the rest of the country and into Canada and Mexico. I use probally 1500 to 1700 Direct Connect minutes a month. Probally 150 Cell minutes a month. 4600kb in Data.

Our company has been using Nextel for a while, so when we dedided to roll out the BB, we went with Nextel. Like Dawg, I use way more DC minutes than cellular. However, since our storms last year (live in Central FL), I have noticed a MAJOR decline in service areas (read....big holes) throughout Florida.

Nextel Coverage in Dallas/Ft. Worth is excellent. Our corporate headquarters is in Plano, never had a problem. If you don't have a need for direct connect though, I would stay with Sprint. Nextel was designed for business, not consumer usage.

Jbaltz Consumer usage on the nextel side has grown by leaps and bounds. Most men who use nextel on a job have either bought their wives or girl frineds one. Most of my family is on nextel and I dont have any friends that dont have them. They have truly blown up and out as far as the general public.

I guess I was being too vague there. Compared to other service providers, Nextel consumer customer base is extremely small compared to is business customer base. Of course with this merger, they will grow their business even more. I personally can't wait for Sprint/Nextel to integrate their iDEN and CDMA networks into one phone for ultimate coverage and PTT capabililties.

I love my 7520! I don't know if this is a concern, but since no one has mentioned it... the 7520 is bigger and heavier than the 7250. I wouldn't trade though because I think it is easier to hold and most importantly, I love my extended battery. As long as you could get good coverage, and don't care that it is bigger, I would go with nextel.

Well i have the Sprint 7250 and I absolutely love it. It has better reception than my past sprint cell phones (there are many NYC subways where I get reception). I have absolutely no regrets about going this way.

I work on Plano (off of Alma), my 7520 sees no less than 4 bars, for the extras that come along with having a Nextel, it gets my vote.
