Question Backup error Message

Please Login to Remove!

Whenever I use Desktop Manager to do a backup - the following happens:

The backup begins and proceeds normally until it gets to "Receiving RMS Databases" - then I get the error message " The data was not recognized by the desktop" <OK>

I click <OK> and the backup continues to completion.

When I use the Desktop Manager to inspect the RMS databases - I have 21 entries of 91.6k on the Desktop and 22 entries of unspecified size on the handheld.

Everything else seem to be fine.

Does anyone have any idea what's going on here? What program is the RMS database from? Can I fix this?

Thanks for any advice!

I dropped my BB about 3 to 4 weeks ago and was able to get it replaced. Before I swapped it out I was going through the process of backing things up and got the very same error message that nobody could determine why or what it means.
When I got the new BB it had the newer software on it (4.0.0.29 or something like that) so I could not do a restore anyway. I had to upgrade the desktop software to be able to communicate with the BB and after I did that I have not seen that error message again.
So I do not know if the problem was on the BB end and it was due to the trauma of being dropped or if the problem was my computer which has been struggling as well. Either way the problem is now gone.
There is a new desktop version out now and that might be an idea - to upgrade that side of things and see if it is better???

RMS databases are where registered applications can keep their data. If you have an app on the BB and you don't see a corresponding data file, the data is most likely in RMS databases.

I deleted the RMS database on the desktop and ran the backup again and it seems to have resolved the problem.

Default I have a difference of two that won't go away?

Not sure why the desktop doesn't see two instances of RMS that the handheld has.

Does anyone know the impact of this. Should I not worry about it?

Sounds to me almost like their desktop software is older than their handheld software by a big amount.

Default RMS database

Hello, I have the same error message on a Blackberry 8700. I see 2 entries in the Desktop and 3 on the BB unit when you go to the Advanced mode in the Backup/Restore. What can be done and what really is RMS database.

thanks...

I think this is related to Google Maps for Mobile, at least one of the failures is. When I do a backup the restore, I have the same problem. I just continue thought it but when restored all the Google Maps searches and other stuff are lost. Still works fine but you have to start your cached searches all over

Hope this helps.
