Default BB7520 (Nextel) And Direct Connect

Please Login to Remove!

Since there's no dedicated Nextel or 7520 forum, hopefully this is OK to ask here.

I've got 8 users with 7520s right now. They're all pretty heavy DC users. When someone DC's you, the phone application comes up. But there is a very short timeout--something like 10 seconds, before the phone program will exit and return to whatever you were looking at previously.

10 seconds isn't really enough to get the BB out of the holster, see who's calling, and hit the DC button to respond. Our Nextel rep says there's no way to change this timeout, but I figured someone here might know of a way, official or unofficial.

This is one of the biggest complaints of the nextel bunch as of now there is no way to fix this. Anyone with the new 7100i is this fixed yet?

Yes this is the most aggrivating thing about my bb and if the new 7100i has fixed this I may indeed switch especially since the majority of the time I am using the dc

yes, this pisses me off, although I have become used to it. If it exits out, i just hit the space bar to get back into phone

Our user group also complains about this on the 7520 and 7510. The spacebar is the fastest way to get back to the phone app.

is it possible to program a key to DC someone? I'll have to look into it.

even when you just want to use the phone its only 3 rings and then disconnect. I think that kinda sucks.

What we really need to do is convince RIM to change the functionality to work like other iDEN phones. The timeout is the same on the 7520 as it is on all the other phones I've seen. The difference is that other iDEN phones will return to the entry of the person who DC'd you in the recent call list after the ~10 seconds is up. This means that you have another minute or so before that list times out and sends you back to the default time display. On the 7520 it takes you back to where you were when the call came in. If it would just return you to the phone screen and select the entry of the person that just DC's you then all would be fine.

I hope they fix this problem too, what I do is goto the messages, mine 7520 shows who was the last calla s well the phone icon. That is the way I see who just DC me. Although this is a pain in the a$$.
But to better things on this "NEXTEL" area....join our self made discussion and rant here to get our own Discussion area for Nextel or 7520s....

Yep it is called ringtime extension.
I had it added to my wife's phone/plan as well as my mother's. I think it basically doubles the ring time to 8 rings. It is very helpful for those of us that do not have a landline and leave the phone elsewhere in the house.

Call 611 and have them add the SOC ringtime extension.

They didn't fix it with the 7100i. It annoys the hell out of me. The call times out and goes back to the message list or the home screen. Then have to go back to the log and chirp them back. Grrr.
