Did anybody find an application for sending class 0 or flash sms messages from a BlackBerry? You know, the ones that are displayed directly on the user's screen.

flash SMS is something reserved for the carriers... which never gets used... they are starting to tho... so what it is, is say when there is a child missing, the carriers can send a flash SMS to all phones within that area... simply what happens is its a SMS that will automatically appear on your screen, no opening needed... you phone will beep you look and its right there displaying on your screen... make sense?

Broadcasting, while it is one use of flash sms, isn't necessarily the only use.

I had a flash sms application for my Nokia E62 a couple years ago. Basically, it sent an SMS message from your phone to another recipient, except it popped up on the recipient's phone (this was mentioned above).

However, it also left no trace. A copy is not left in the recipient's inbox to view later or reply to. In addition, it was possible to add codes which changed the colour of the background and have flashing letters (hence the name, FLASH sms).

All that said, I know of no such applications for the Blackberry.

was it like that cell broadcast thing, we had on the ericsson and nokias, where you would get the location of the strongest tower you were receiving signal from?
