Default How can you tell if Wi-fi is in use and not GPRS?

Please Login to Remove!

Hello,

Quick question, I have setup Wi-fi on my Blackberry Bold, and confirmed its working by removing the SIM card and using the Blackberry Browser. So I know it can surf using Wi-fi.

My only question is once I put the SIM card back in how I can I tell if my device is using Wi-fi to surf or GPRS?

Ideally need to know how it works or how to tell so I can avoid using my data bundle on surfing the net on my phone.

Can anyone help?

Thanks

When you're using the browser, look at the top-right hand corner of the screen. If it shows the WiFi logo, then you're using WiFi, if it shows 3G or EDGE or GPRS then you're using your data plan.

You need to pay attention to that wifi logo on the home screen, too. When the wifi network name is shown and the wifi logo is bold, you are connected to the RIM data system. If the logo is grey you may be connected but you have to use the wifi browser. If it's greyed out and you are using the "Internet Browser" you will likely be using EDGE/GPRS.
