Back up th device first. Download and install JL_Cmder and wipe the device. Plug in device>Open DM>Apploader>Add/Remove>and install 4.5 Core Applications. Once finished, restore from the back up you made.

What's the difference between using JL Cmder to wipe the device and wiping the device via Security Settings on the handheld?

A great deal. They are nothing the same. The security wipe only wipes your BB of personal data, addresses, messages, etc. The OS remains intact.

The JL Cmder wipe is like formatting the hard drive on your computer. Everything goes.

I know there is probably a thread somewhere on here concerning it, but would you mind just giving me a quick list of any other benefits of using JL-cmdr? Thanks.

Exactly what JSanders said. Basically the wipe that the handheld does, is put the device in out-of-box condition.

Edit: The How-To wipe with JL_Cmder on BBFaq is a absolutely awesome tutorial/guide.

the problem is that i dont have BB plan. I use a generic data plan which seems t work fine for third party apps on 4.2, but doesnt work on 4.5

The upgrade of my unlocked T-Mobile 8320 went problem free. I am using AT&T as my carrier. The only issue I'm experiencing is that some of the icons are now displayed as red 't's. They appear to be AT&T specific applications like 'Shop Tunes'.

Any idea how to get the icons to display correctly? I tried using the AT&T theme, but it didn't fix the problem.

Why not just hide the icons?

Default I upgraded to 4.5 and now I have a question

Here are a few observations.

1) Before upgrading, if you have the surreal theme, DELETE IT. I spent three hours trying to break my phone out of an endless crash loop. (I didn't know this was a known problem, but it is) Aside of the theme prob, everything else was smooth.

2) Video cam is great
3) Html email is great, except for spam, which I wish would go back to text.
4) Overall, the os feels a little sluggish
5) The voice quality is NOTICABLY better. It seemed like people would cut out when I spoke, making conversations a little more walkie talkie "ish". This is gone now.
6) Haven't noticed any difference with UMA quality either way.

I was getting a little bored and wanted to tinker with my phone. I'd say go for the upgrade, but lower your expectations a little. It's got a few new tricks, but there doesn't seem to be much to get excited about.

My 2cents
Is it true I can now stream videos and music? If so, how do I get it to work. It seems like everything else is going great.

Hi. I tried to update to 4.5 T-Mo earlier tonight and everything was running smoothly and then I got a "fatal error" message at the end of the update and my phone was running a black and white 2.0 OS. I tried again, same thing happened. I figured it was my outated DM (was running 4.2) so I upgraded to 4.6 and tried again. No luck. Ran JL_Cmder, wouldn't connect after 15 tries. Followed bbfaq.com directions regarding what to do when JL-CMder doesn't work, get the same error and no action from the BB except the blinking red light of death. Anyone have any ideas? Did I just completely fry my phone?

You should definitely upgrade to 4.5.0.81. It is a better build and more stable than .55 and also your carrier supports .81, whereas it does not for .55.
