Angry Blackberry ruins ZEN??

Please Login to Remove!

I installed Blackberry Desktop Manager on my desktop PC to allow charging my Blackberry 8310 through USB, which worked. However, when I plugged my Zen Vision M 30gb into the USB (as I had been doing for over a year without problem), it got fried: internal components melted, thing is ruined . Shouldn't there be a caution when installing the RIMUSB-drivers?

I find it extremely hard to believe that Desktop Manager resulted in the destruction of your USB device.
This would be highly unlikely.

Wirelessly posted (BB 8330)

Same here. I have plugged in many different devices into my PC without any problems.

Wirelessly posted (Curve)

I have DM installed and have plugged both my Curve and my hubby's Zen up to my computer numerous times and never had a problem. I also agree with the previous poster that it is highly unlikely that the meltdown was caused by the software.

Same here, BlackBerry DM and my Zen Vision M 30GB work fine, I think your Zen must just have been at the end of it's life!

Before installing the desktop manager, I got the error-message that the USB-port did not provide sufficient power to charge my BB8310. Since the desktop software seems to adapt the power supplied through the USB-port, I assumed the output would have to be increased, no? Or is it indeed just a weird coincidence that after having charged the ZEN for umpty times, it should "selfdestruct" the first time I plug in after the desktop software was installed?
I'll have to be Zen about it...

If your connecting your BB to one of your front USB ports (desktop pc) then I'd expect that it wouldn't be able to charge it, not many front pannel USB ports do. They're all fine for communication though. (if you want to charge youer BB through USB, stick to your rear ports).

I think it's just a coincidence that happened to the Zen.

Coincidental != causal.

That's expected. Without the BB driver installed (along with DM) your PC can't recognize the BB when connected and won't increase power to the USB port when you connect your BB to charge/sync. Unless your Zen appeared to the PC suddenly as a BB I don't see how installing DM would have caused this -- and your Zen appearing as a BB would, instead, be the cause anyway. I also suspect this to be coincidental as the scenario I mentioned seems highly unlikely.

Does the Zen not charge via the USB port anyway?

You do need the drivers installed to charge the BB through the USB port. However, in this case I think it was just a coincidence that this happened.
