With BlackBerry's move towards touchscreen devices, as BB patrons, what are your thoughts on where they're going?

Touchscreen isn't a "must have" for me, but if a touchscreen device had all of the other features that I wanted, I would get it.

I truly love the idea of a touchscreen and hope RIM gets it right. (by all reviews I've seen, they most likely have)

I tried to break my crackberry addiction recently and went with the LG Dare for a few weeks. I was not impressed with their touchscreen. more often than not I'd be wishing for a stylus and that just seemed wrong. it may have cured my touchscreen envy, but did nothing for the BB addiction, I now have a curve 8320 and loving it.

I don't think I would mind the touch screen if the keyboard were querty. I haven't seen the Storm in person yet but looking at it online it appears to not have a querty virtual keyboard. If that's true I don't want it.

I have to say, i was tempted to click 'Touch screens offend me', cause generally speaking, they do. IMO the only reason RIM are releasing this 'Storm' is to keep up with the current market.

from what I've seen, if you hold the storm in landscape you get qwerty. in profile you get suretype.

I had an 8100 previously and was hesitant to go qwerty on the curve. gotta say I'm glad I did.

I would like to touch the storm before making up my mind on the touchscreen.

It clicks... that put me off it straight away.

To each their own. I actually find the idea that the screen clicks rather interesting and that would make me more prone to using it than a straight touchscreen.

I remember going into an O2 (UK AT&T) in November of last year on the day the iPhone was first released, and the store assistant told me a funny story.

The store had had over a hundred people queuing outside it that morning prior to opening so they could get their hands on an iPhone. It was a cold morning, and because the iPhone 'touch' screens respond to heat and pressure rather than just pressure, people had walked in to try one out and none of them would work because all their hands were frozen.

There was a mass panic as everyone thought the iPhones had developed a fault with the touchscreen.

Made me laugh so much.

That's pretty funny. Never thought of that. So I wonder if it would work if you're wearing gloves?

With the trackball there is no reason for a touch screen. A phone should be as tangible as possible with convenience. Isn't everyone taking off the VAD? These "features" don't really make life any easier.

How did you spell qwerty wrong?! It's called qwerty 'cause those are the top keys.

Once the touch screen devices are equal to or better than the iPhone, I will consider them. Until then, I require a keyboard on my devices. I find that most devices that are touchscreen, minus the iPhone, really lack the feedback and usability that a touchscreen device needs.
