Default Political????

Please Login to Remove!

Ok so we can't get political here at the BBforums, but the forums can get political with it's adverts???

i see prop 8 adverts in the sidebars. My problem with this is as follows:

1) Prop 8 is a California thing and really has no bearing on the others here that post from all over the globe.

2) It is political and yet we can't post anything political.

3) It is unfair to the other political adverts you guys could be running.

If i get in trouble for this then so be it, but i don't see how it is fair that the forum can get political yet the posters can't.

Your post here to discuss it is fine.

I haven't seen those ads, however, I am betting they are in the Google ad box?

We don't control what Google accepts for advertising, no differently than there could be an ad there in competition to one of our main sponsors here.

ok it is in the google ad box. Is that somehow tailored to the geographic location of my IP address. Meaning would you perhaps see something for your neck of the woods?

I take it back there is no google header above it. It appears in the sponsored links box on the left, but only when you are in a forum. if you enter a topic it doesn't appear.

I'm not seeing any. I wonder if they are somehow driving by IP address....?

At least it will all be over tomorrow. But I don't see the Google ad box. My firewall must be blocking it -- I don't have any ad blocking software.

Google ads are supposed to be targeted and relevant to the page/site content, at least that's what I thought.

Looking at BBF in my virtual machine. Those ads are truly obnoxious!!! Whether you agree with their position or not, they are awful. I see two identical ads, one below the other, above the BlackBerry related ad.

Tom, if those are Ad Sense ads, you are getting ripped off by Google.

https://www.google.com/adsense/login...3_b_top&medium

Quote:
Earn money from relevant ads on your website
Google AdSense matches ads to your site's content, and you earn money whenever your visitors click on them.
AdSense for content automatically crawls the content of your pages and delivers ads (you can choose both text or image ads) that are relevant to your audience and your site content—ads so well-matched, in fact, that your readers will actually find them useful.
(emphasis mine).

You do have some control over the ads displayed on your site, supposedly anyway. Click the "show only appropriate ads" link in the left side column.

Looks like these political adds are sponsored by Blackberryforums. I find them very irritating along with many of my coworkers that use this forums too.

These ads are not sponsored by BlackBerryForums or myself, these are public service ads that for some reason Google turned on. This should have not been the case and it will be altered to prevent this sort of thing in the future.

Thanks for bringing it up, and yes, they are driven by geographical location but are not content ads, but rather public service filler ads.

Maybe Google considers them to be public service ads, but, come on, that's ridiculous. They are political ads that are being paid for by the sponsor. I don't consider that public service at all. It's the same as a paid political ad on TV or radio.
