BES 4.1.6 for GroupWise
Please Login to Remove!
I did a search and didn't find any posts related to this, if this is a duplicate thread please delete.
I am looking to upgrade our BES next week to 4.1.4 MR1 (latest as of right now) so I went onto BlackBerry.com to get everything in order for the upgrade. I found documentation on 4.1.6 for GroupWise.
BlackBerry - Product Manuals and Guides
I called RIM and they said it should be released between 10/15 - 10/20.
I just wanted to share this with any GW BES admins that may have not been aware.

I took the plunge........
The upgrade was flawless, it installed and everything that was working still is.
The Good:
Can now download Attachments in your email to your phone, busy search is nice....
The Bad:
I can't seem to get HTML working correctly on the handsets. I'm not able to view HTML emails, and haven't had the time to get it working correctly.

Handsets must be running OS version 4.5 or greater for HTML email.

Actually I figured it out, you need to run the latest version of the client (7.0.3) once I upgraded it, and rebooted it started working like a champ.

I ran the installation of 4.1.6 as planned. The install went rather smooth, however ran into two issues.
First the Groupwise connector was having issues. To fix this I had to do the following
1. On the computer on which you host the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, start the Registry Editor.
2. In the left pane, browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Enterprise Server\GroupWise.
3. Create a new DWORD called EnsureUserConfigUserNames.
4. Right-click the EnsureUserConfigUserNames value and click Modify.
5. Set the value to 1.
6. Click OK.
7. Open the BlackBerry Manager, and in the left pane, click on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server containing the affected user(s)
8. Click on Server Configuration, expand Service Control and Customization, and click Synchronize GroupWise System Address Book.
I was also having issues seeing messages if the were forwarded as an attachment. I would get an "Embedded message text insertion is disabled" message. To correct this I had to do the following :
1. On the computer which hosts the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, open the Registry Editor.
2. Navigate to the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Enterprise Server\Agents.
3. Create a new DWORD value called DisableEmbeddedMessages.
4. Right-click the DisableEmbeddedMessages value, and click Modify.
5. Set the value to 0.
6. Click OK.
7. Close the Registry Editor.
8. Restart the BlackBerry Controller service.
If you encounter these issues, and need to make the changes above, I would recommend making a backup of the registry keys prior to making the changes.
Other than the two above issues, all has been well.

jsconyers . . .I wonder if the risk in your second issue is still there-
"If the BlackBerry device users in an organization requires the ability to forward embedded messages, and the organization accepts the risk that an email message might contain unrelated embedded content, the default registry value can be changed by performing the following steps:"
As noted in KB12624. Several folks at the BES Admin training I attended last year said that they had unintended email show up in other user's mailboxes. One particularly bad case had a Hospital's Chief Admin's email show up on another user's device. That is not a risk we can take in our organization.

Interesting! I just noticed it too. Maybe it's because people are having issues upgrading to SP6. I haven't been able to upgrade my 2 BESs to SP6, because it fails to upgrade the database. Tsupport is saying others are having the same issues too. So anyone else with the same problem?

RIM has indeed pulled it down from their website, and there are several good reasons why. We installed it on both of our BES boxes (upgraded from 4.1.4 MR1) and do I ever wish I could roll back. The installation on one server failed altogether, which is apparently a known bug. I've had several C level users reporting appointments being randomly re-sent from the past, some of which other users generated originally. Handhelds randomly lose the ability for the user to delete messages from the handheld, so I have to wipe from BES and wipe the device then re-provision to fix that. In short its a nightmare, so do yourself a favor and wait until the next version is out. If you want some interesting reading, here's a link RIM sent me highlighting issues in 4.1.6 and advising to not use it in production. Hmm.
Go read KB16451 updated on 11/21 and you'll see what I mean.
We're using GroupWise 7.0.3 HP1 in SOAP mode now, we were using OAPI mode and thought (initially) that might be causing issues but so much for that.
Hope this post saves someone some time and potential issues.

I have updated to 4.1.6 and had nothing but problems.
1. Had to move SQL 2000 db to SQL 2005 to get upgrade to work
2. Since "upgrading" to SP6, can't search distribution groups
3. Any email address with () in any part of their name, only shows the contents in parenthesis on the Blackberries (doesn't matter if internal or external email address)
4. When doing activations since upgrading, pre-pop Sent Messages so up in the Inbox of the device as regular incoming messages rather than with a check mark
5. When an original email sent to a distribution group is forwarded as an attachment (default in GW), the list isn't truncated anymore
6. Tried to switch to SOAP mode (had to switch back to OAPI because of firewall issues), but in that time, over 100 users on 4.2.1 software were unable to delete email messages off the device after reading them and those messages show as filed. I am trying to confirm with RIM that this only affects that software and not everything other than 4.5 handheld code.
Number six may be more an issue with changing to SOAP, but overall, I have been very disappointed by SP6 put out by RIM. I am anxiously awaiting updates that will correct some, if not all, of these issues. Desperately wish I could roll back to 4.1.4 MR1.

Awesome...completed the upgrade a week ago Friday to resolve other issues. Luckily we've just started to implement BES so there are only a handful of users affected. Still, my first taste of this stuff and they pull the update AFTER I've already installed it...that's pretty sketchy.

It is not sketchy if it does not work.
They pulled service packs before and will do it again if there are too many issues.

If it doesn't work...don't release it.
Again, this is my first experience with RIM and so far I'm not very impressed especially when I was told by RIM support to upgrade to the latest version to fix other issues only to find the update pulled a week later.

Has there been any rresolution to the SOAP issue where handhelds can't delete email messages off the device after reading them and those messages show as filed?
