Default Did RIM remove the Hearing Aid Telecoil mode on the Bold?!?

Please Login to Remove!

On the Curve I would do the following to turn on "H-T" hearing aide mode

hit green make call button
go to menu
go to options
go to hearing aid mode
change to "telecoil"

and yes there is interference when i am using hearing aids and my bold.

On the bold there is now a TTY mode, that is not what this is for.

any suggestions?

weird, serched BBF and found nothing.

searched Google and found a thread on BBF

http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...aids-bold.html

Very interesting because RIM advertised that the Bold would be T-3 and T-4 telecoil compliant and apparently its not!

that is my secretary/GF.

She is laughing as she is in the kitchen cooking.

Yes, it will squeal at certain times. I have very high end hearing aids with auto feedback, but the BB needs to have the telecoil turned on to remove the interference.

The curve had the feature and ATT said the Bold does, but I certainly can't find it which makes me believe they never added it.

I know why you donut see it and why I don't either... we don't have it installed. Connect your device to your desktop use application loader or somewhere in there to add the TTY support then you should see it. for some reason it is now an uninstallable feature

After installing click the Phone Key and then the BB menu key. Scroll to Options and then to TTY. You should see the options there.

Let me know if it works

I have TTY option. That is not the same as Telecoil "H-T"

this is what TTY option is for...

seems like RIM didn't think this was important and they didn't include it on the BOLD

here is the list of phones that are compatible

I'm deaf too
(Hearing Impairment FAQ by Mark D. Rejhon)

Do you have a different set of hearing aids, to test with? (Just in case for some weird reason that its T-coil may work better with Bold) Or a different Bold, as it's possible that for some reason this specific bold isn't 100% compatible due to defect?

Also, check out Deaf Chat | People Deaf Culture - AllDeaf.com's technology forums, and see if there are other Bold users complaining there...

No I only have the one hearing aid and about to get another on for my right ear. I could use it with my right ear for now but it is still hard though it does have a better speaker the the curve did.

Thanks for the site and the FAQ I will check them out because I am coming to terms with this problem and I am having a hard time dealing with the loss of hearing and my eyes getting worse.

If T-coil fails to help enough, don't forget to try out Sprint Captioned Telephone -- Provides online closed captioning for your regular telephone calls. It behaves like a 3-way call into a captioning center which then transmits "closed captions" of your to your computer screen, while you converse normally on your telephone to your friend/family/etc. It is perfect for late-deafened people like you. Give it a try! Captioned Telephone is free...

Yes I know about it plus I use TTY. My Brother & Sister-in-law are both deaf. I am learning sign language. I have a really hard time signing.

Hmm.. I thought the M & T ratings were there all along..

I have a Bold, and a Cochlear Implant, and the sound quality is extremely good on 3G mode with Rogers and very clear. Tip: Change audio to 'more bass' in the options, it'll sound much better no matter what kind of hearing you have. I prefer plugging in directly via headphone jack. The phone can still hear you talk from the mic on the bottom of the phone. Even holding it up to your headpiece is still very clear for me. I have a CI headpiece that runs at 49 mhz, and usually it picks up strong interference from neon lights, and electronics held near to it, but I don't hear interference with the Bold.

I understand that the headset cable that came with the bold is telecoil compatible.. why don't you try that one? Flip your HA's to 'T' and hang the buds over your ear or something. Might be good enough to tide you over until you find a better solution.

It's too bad Captioned Telephone doesn't work properly in Bold Browser (yet?). It does on the iPhone 3G's browser, though, and now there's a native iPhone app. Eventually, hopefully it will work, or they release a BlackBerry specific version of the app...

Great info John. Thanks!

I have the Widex Inteo (in the ear). I have no issues with interference on other cell phones that I have used from other people. I have also never used another bold besides my own.

I have only had issues with my Bold. Thats why I figured it was the telecoil.

On my curve, I didn't haven't issues at all. On the curve, I could notice a difference when i had telecoil on or off.
