Default Visual Voicemail - any way to auto retrieve?

Please Login to Remove!

I assumed that once I activated Visual Voicemail, it would fill up and let me know when I have new messages. I discovered today, that I had 7 messages and had no clue until I opened the program and clicked "get messages" or whatever.

Anyway, shouldn't there be a notification or an automatic retrieval?

Thats odd, it should tell you just like regular voicemail. At least thats how it works on my Storm. Have you tried to delete the application and reinstall it?

I have VM and when I have a message they are sitting on my phone waiting for me to press the play button next to the message. I can play them in any order that I want and I do not need to tell the application to go out and get them.

That's what I figured...it keeps asking for permission to check online and i keep checking don't ask again as well.

Thoughts?

It just sounds like the application is out of sync of sorts. The first thing I would do is pull your battery and let your Storm start up fresh. If that doesn't resolve it, I would remove the application and re-install it. I am not sure 100% though. It has always worked for me. After I upgraded to the leaked OS, I had to give it permission again to automatically check again, but I haven't been bothered since.

From the app center on the device.

Thanks guys...tried it out still no luck.

I click to check for new messages, it gives me an error saying "mass storage mode is on" (in memory, read somewhere to leave that to on), and then cancels the search, but then downloads the new message anyway.

Still not automatic. Any other thoughts?

thanks,

My only other thought or suggestion is to call VZW and see if there is something they can do from their end. They should be able to reset this feature from their end. I wish there was something else that could be suggested but I am at a loss. Let us know if calling VZW resolves it or what they suggest that ends up resolving it.

Sound like your permissions aren't set correctly. Go into Options > Advanced Options > Applications, highlight VVM and click the BB button to bring up the menu. Select Edit Permissions and make sure Connections, Interactions and User Data are all set to Allow.

Save. You may have to do a battery pull for a complete reboot but try VVM before doing so, see if it works w/o the reboot.

Dude, that's exactly what I tried, thinking that would be the problem. So I have connections and interactions listed as "custom" and I can't make that "allow." Even if you expand and scroll to the individual attributes to change those from prompt to "allow", where there'd be an "allow" option, there's prompt again! So I see prompt, deny, prompt!!

I've deleted again this time using the desktop manager, that fully deleted/uninstalled, reinstalled, went through the agreement again, etc...and still have this issue.

I have the same issue as Sia with the exception that I CAN set all permissions to "allow". Which was the default.

I deleted/reinstalled/batt pull. Still no 'push' to the app.

On the phone with Tech support now. She told me to do:
*228 2
Batt pull
*228 2

No luck.
Now on hold. Will come back with a resolution if I get one.

*228 2 will update the PRL (preferred roaming list) and should have nothing to do with VVM.

This is true. I was merely doing what the good VZW CS told me to do. (while she wasnt paying attention.. i also did *228 1).
I have just now hung up with them... it is 1239pm. I began the call at 11:15 am. Here is what 'upper level' tech support had me do:
uninstall app/reinstall app
batt pull
check permissions to all ALLOW
VZW CS test call to my voicemail
--nothing-- on Visual Vmail.. but vmail in mailbox (as determined by *86)
*86 for voicemail options to allow voicemail 'notification turned on'
Reset voicemail on VZW's end
Reset vmail password/greeting/notification.
VZW CS test call to my vm.
--nothing-- on V.Vmail
Batt pull
#832 to test call
VZW CS test call
--nothing-- on V.Vmail
Separated SMS and Email mailboxes
Batt pull
nada.
At this point CS said I had two options... master reset the phone, or wait for the OS update which "...will address this and other issues..."
We don't need no stinking master reset!!!! Will wait for OS update... which she said will be released 'tonight'. When pressed for a time she said "6pm ish".

She placed me on hold a number of times for a long period of time. She said she was looking up information about this issue.
There you have it.

I have .75 on the device.. had it since i received the device on Monday.

But what is REALLY odd... after my last post...i pulled the battery and left it out for about 15 mins. Replaced it... plugged the device into my DM... prompted me for a backup (normal... today is the 3rd day of a 3day backup cycle)... backed it up. Then I left the device plugged in while went out for a bit lunch. Came back and called my cell number and VOILA...
V.Vmail now works. Go figure. A watched pot may not in-fact boil afterall.
thanks.

Well damn, now now my visual voicemail is not notifying me when I have a new voicemail. It is auto checking, but its a few hours behind when I actually get the mesaage. This setup is so half assed compared to the iphone. I am going to try all the above suggestions and hopefully get it fixed.

mike i have the same issue and have since the 21st, luckily i dont get many vms. but the other day a vm was left for me at 3:30 and i didnt receive notification of it till 10:30 (a full 7 hours later). then today i had someone call me and i figured they would have left a vm so after 1 hour i went in manually and updated it and it got the vm, if i had waited again it would have been many more hours. it seems like the issue is the request interval where it is checking for new messages, how can we lower that time between it updating to a lower time like 1min?
