One of our users has called in stating her phone will only type symbols(like the ones you get when you press the SYM key).

She is not even opening the SYM window to get there...it's just everything is a symbol automatically when trying to type.

Anyone heard of this before? I searched and came up with nothing. This problem is blowing my mind.

Water Damage, likely.

IF it is not a locked symbol or ALT key, keyboard antics like that often point to moisture damage.

I'm not sure, she's several states away and I doubt she's going to admit to water damage.
I can't even get my spare 8700 to "lock" in to symbol mode.

I can't either.

Her moisture indicator sticker will tell, sometimes. Often, a BB in a room with a even a highly steamy shower will act like this with odd key entries, but show nothing on the moisture sticker.
