Two points. First I had trouble getting the BB maps to work also but a battery pull fixed that. I still get quite a few Seaching for Satellite messages -- but I also get a fix pretty quickly.
Also, while there is a $10 monthly fee for VZW, you can turn it on and off by contacting customer support. You will pay the minimum monthly fee -- but that is a whole lot cheaper than renting a Hertz car for a weekend and adding their NeverLost feature at $9 or more per day. For some reason Verizon does not offer a daily rate for their VZW Navigator when is is being used by the BB as they do when you simply bring it up on a cell phone.

I have that problem too. Try turning on GPS Navigation first. It usually finds the satellites, then you can use the Where I Am function.

Hmm... Well, let's exhaust all possibilities I guess. First, have you tried a battery pull? Sometimes that helps to reset the device.

Second, make sure that in Options > Advanced Options > GPS that you have GPS Data Source set to "Device GPS" and that GPS Services is set to "Location On".

In BB Maps, under Options, make sure that you have GPS Source set to "Internal GPS". Try to use the Where I Am function again.

When I use this, mine pops up almost immediately. Note that this is only for BB Maps. VZW has not unlocked GPS for any other external applications.

Hope that this helps you out.

I just turned this feature on and it found my location right away. Is there a way for the maps program to determine where you have been and how far you have gone? I am just thinking about using this when I go for a ride on my bike or a run.

I have to admit. I have been on this site three years and did not know or notice the new posts button.
