Default Desktop manager problems

Please Login to Remove!

OK long story short:

My desktop manager is setup as BES and I use BIS. Im also having problems uninstalling it.

DM never asks me how it wants to be installed (BES/BIS)
So my question is:
How can I force the installation to be BIS?
Theres a txt file in the setup folder that says i can use it to customize a setup.ini but how do i use that to my advantage?

Thanks.

PS for the long story to go crackberry com and search "desktop manager issues"

Try doing a complete wipe of Desktop Manager. Uninstall Desktop Manager. The go to c:\program files and delete the Research In Motion Folder. Delete the same folder in c:\programfiles\common files. If the folders aren't there then don't worry about it. Next go to Start, Run and type in regedit and hit enter. Delete the Research In Motion folder located under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software and also in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software. Reboot the machine and then run the install for Desktop Manager again and it should give you the option for BES or BIS.

No luck.
Tried to uninstall via "add/remove programs" and it seems as though it just reinstalled the program because after a restart, it still works just fine.

Any thoughts on the custom installation idea?

Follow the instructions here exactly:

http://www.blackberryforums.com/rim-...-software.html

Just using Add/Remove isn't enough. You need to do all the additional steps.

Also, it sounds like maybe you did a modify, not an uninstall.

Task 1, Step 4:
"4. On the InstallShield Wizard window, click the Remove option, followed by Next."

Therein lies the problem. The install shield wizard window never prompts me with options. Im sure it is doing a modify but i have no control over that.

There must be a way to alter the setup.ini to force a BIS install and circumvent the option window.

Are you installing this on a work or home computer? If it's a work computer maybe it's setup by policy to automatically install the DM and configure it for BES.

That's how it was at our work prior to us upgrading the BES server to 4.0. Now since we are fully wireless all we do is install the driver's as part of the computer build so they can charge their blackberries on their computer. DM is not even on our work computers anymore.

Followed every step in that link and im pretty sure im still set up as BES. There are email options in DM and as far as i know, the BIS version doesnt.
Is that correct?

You may want to install the "Windows Installer Cleanup Uitlity" you can find a download from Microsoft's Website and run that on the BDM instance.

When going threw the BDM install, choose Personal Email and it should install the BIS portion.

I think Steve is on to something.

Download and install from here:

Windows Installer Cleanup Utility
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility

After it's installed, run it (shortcut should be on your Start menu). The utility will display a list of programs installed through Windows Installer. If you find any entries for Blackberry Desktop Software in the "Installed Products" listing, select it/them, then hit "Remove" and let the cleanup utility do its thing.

Then you can try again to uninstall the Desktop Manager. Once you get it uninstalled, you can install again with the correct options.

Hey guys.
I actually already have the utility and ran it after doing the manual uninstall and removed 2 entries actually. One for 4.6 and one for 4.7. I always restart after each step. I never get asked anything. Language selection, install location, EULA, install options. None of the install shield wizard windows appear. Only a windows installer window with a progress bar. But it does install sucessfully. Just not the way i want it to.

Where did you get the version of destop manager you are using? Have you tried downloading the one from t-mobile's website? Maybe try doing a complete uninstall of anything and everything that's Research In Motion related. You'll probably have to use the Window's Cleanup utility again to help you. Then download the latest version of the Desktop manager from t-mobiles website and install that one and see what happens.

Just curious but is the computer XP or Vista?
