Default Export IT Policy settings

Please Login to Remove!

On a BB ernterprise server, is there a way to export the settings from an IT Policy so that I can see all the settings withough having to manually click through each settings tab?

There are a couple of articles on how to export the policy that you have, which my BES administrator is attempting to do, I wonder if there is a blank template in something usable like Excel someplace on the Internet. The manual is comprehensive, but doesn't lend itself to a checklist.

You should use the BlackBerry Resource Kit which can be downloaded from the BlackBerry site.

It can track the amount of data, the IT Policy enforced, the IT Policy settings in the the IT Policy.

Default The output from IT Policy Export Tool

I thought the tool would help us document our IT Policy settings but...

Transcript:

itpolicyimportexport -n BesServer1 -db besmgmt
Prompt: Enter the file name [Entered one with a .txt extension]
Prompt: Enter an encryption password [Entered one]
Prompt: IT Policies: 1. Default [Chose 1]

Text: Including Policy "Default"
Writing Policy "Default"

Result: a text file that had nothing but strange characters like , only not as nice looking.

Just thought I'd pass that on. We have a workaround, which is to export the blank IT Policy template (one doesn't need the Resource Kit for that) and then hand-enter the settings for each item, and record the changes in a log.

I guesstimate to my customers that Research In Motion believes that the IT Policy tables are extremely privileged proprietary information, and that they set their tools up accordingly.

Will try the suggestion in post 821692 (use the User Administration Service) soon if I have time.

Keep in mind, the 4.1.6+ BRK allows you to export each IT Policy individually, or all IT policies at once. A great time saving addition if you have a lot of policies.

Default Using the Admin BRK to do this worked well for me

It only printed the items that were changed from the default.

Thanks. Was that the Resource Kit itself, or the User Administration tool?
